I know 3 Gavins who are 50+, so I don't think of it as trendy at all.
I think it is increasing in popularity but I don't consider it trendy. Trendy for me means that you can guess what decade a person was born in based on their name and have a strong chance of getting it right- Jackson, anything rhyming with Aiden, etc for 2010s babes.
I think there's a difference between trendy and popular. When I think of trendy names I think of names like Ryder, Jaxson, etc. Gavin was number 20 in my state when we named my DS so relatively popular. Which is why we debated for a long time whether to choose it. We finally did and we have only come across one other Gavin.
FWIW I am really pleased with the name and actually love it.
All of the Gavins I know are adults, except one 15 year old. I don't know any younger than that. It's never struck me as trendy, but I don't know how popular it is in other places.
I consider the name trendy for sure. I know at least five friends who have named their sons Gavin in the past 2 years. It's not a name I would ever consider picking.
I do feel I see a lot of people considering it on here. I have only met a few Gavin's in my life. I work at a children's hospital, I have worked their for 7 years and have only met 2 Gavin's. That being said, I love the name. So much so ds (who is 5 weeks) is named Gavin. I think it is a good strong/masculine name.
