I'm sorry for your loss.

I wouldn't put so much onus on having to celebrate BEFORE the baby is born.  There are cultures where it's seen as bad luck to have a shower before so they only have showers after the baby is born.

Don't read too much into that aspect of it. 

Past that- while it was absolutely a horrible, horrible time for you last year, keep in mind that it was probably very hard and difficult for the people who love you too.  Your mom, for her OWN sake, may not feel up to having a shower until afterwards. 

Clearly people are excited and want to celebrate.  Don't worry abou tthe "when".
