How do you do it?

I'm pretty sure LO is in a growth spurt because she is nursing every hour anywhere between 10-30mins at a time. My question is, when this happens, how do I find time to eat myself?? I just laid down to try and get some sleep and realized that today I ate one sandwich, one bowl of cereal, and a few granola bars. That's not even close to enough, and now my stomach hurts with what I'm pretty sure are hunger pains. I just made myself another sandwich...

How do you ladies manage to take care of yourselves during these growth spurts? I'm honestly forgetting to eat.

Re: How do you do it?

  • I haven't had to nurse that frequently - I really can't imagine. If I'm really hungry and she decides she needs to eat, I let her fuss for a minute while I get my food ready, then eat it while she eats - that way we are both happy.

You could also keep snacks and water near where you nurse and just snack when she eats.

Otherwise, I just try to make the most of any free time I have.

  • I let her fuss a while. I also buy fruit i can eat with one hand. Today I had quite a few 30 minute nursing sessions and I made sure I had a plum, a banana and some grapes. As soon as she's done I hand her off and get something to eat.

Today I nursed her then left her with DH to take a quick drive to Zaxby's to go through the drive thru. It was so nice to get out for 30 minutes in the beautiful weather then come home and eat in peace. As soon as I finished I was back nursing again...

  • I take advantage of the couple minutes that I can put him down right after he eats and basically make a pile of food near where I am nursing. Anything that I can eat easily - crackers, grapes, granola bars, etc. That way at least I am getting calories, even if they aren't meals.

  • Ditto ladybug. I make sure that I have what I need before I sit down to nurse. Even in the middle of the night I have a granola bar handy just in case I wake up hungry. Saves me a sleepy trip to the kitchen.

  • DS2 eats so much! Just set your LO down for a few mins and bring food to the couch with you while you nurse. They are OK to cry for a few minutes!

  • I do what everyone else said, I stockpile food on a table next to where I nurse. :P When she is awake and happy I make a triple decker sandwich or something, and then I keep granola bards, fruit, water, etc next tome so I an eat while she nurses or sleeps, since she won't sleep unless I hold her.
