I breastfeed my daughter but I have returned to work and dropped the daytime feeds. She has been nursing about three times a day for over a month now, but I still have not had my period return.  Today I noticed a little spotting.  I read something online that it could be a sign of my fertility returning to have a little spotting before my period returns.  Did any breastfeeding mamas have this happen?

I happen to have a docs appointment in a few days anyway, so I'll ask then too.

Are you due for a period? My first period while breastfeeding (when LO was like 11 months) was barely a period, much more like spotting.

Are you on the mini pill? I BFed for a year and had some light spitting in June. Haven't had anything since then even though I stopped BFing a month ago. I had my annual with my dr and she said the mini pill might be a part of it and that once I went back to my normal bc it should return.

apollonia10: I'm not sure if I am due for a period.  I haven't had a period since October 2011...so I'm sure I'm due for one soon!  I'm hoping this is just my body trying to get back on its regular cycle and not a health concern.

I never had spotting.  I was PMSing hard core (cramping, moody and my back hurt) for 2 weeks.  Then AF came with a vengeance.

Sounds normal and your period is probably coming back.  This happened to me with my first PP period at about 8.5 months.  I too am still BF and have had only a few periods, but they seem to finally be mostly regular.  The one difference I did notice though was really heavy bleeding on days 2-4, which I didn't have prior to LO because I was on the pill for over 10 years.
