Just found out we're expecting #2 at the end of april! I didn't get a sling of any kind for ds because needing my hands wasn't an issue. Thinking we'll need one this time around. What worked best for you?
Check to see if you have a local Babywearing International group near you. They'll be able to help you choose a carrier (or 2) and they have a lending library where you can borrow things for a month at a time. Also, Paxbaby.com has a WIDE selection of carriers. I personally love a wrap conversion ring sling! Though I used a boba wrap for the first 2 months and just kept it tied on all day. I will probably do that when I start watching my niece in a couple of months. She's only 5.5 pounds!
I had a Moby at first, but I'm not a huge fan once they start getting heavier, it always felt unsafe after the newborn stage because it stretches with their weight. I'm also just not a fan of wraps and slings, I think they take too long to put on, especially if you've got two little ones needed your attention. I have a Baby Hawk Oh Snap for my toddler that I LOVE for back carry. For a newborn, I wore my 9 week old at the zoo in my SIL's Beco Gemini and I loved it so much and she was so comfy in it I ordered one the next day! It does front, back, or hip carry, and the straps can go any way you want them. For her narrow pelvis, I snapped in the bottom like you would for a front facing and she was much comfier than with her hips almost doing the splits in my much wider Hawk, but still spread enough to keep it from being a "crotch dangler."
Re: Recommend your baby sling.
I did, however, use a moby-type wrap in the beginning with both my kids and then moved on the Ergo and baby bjorn. Loved all of them.
