Cloth Diapering

In-Law Vent

I am kind of bummed out today. My SIL (DH's sister) is about to have her 4th LO, and she's been considering CDs. Her DH really wants her to do it, but she's not sure. I have offered to let her try mine, but DH's aunt acted like that was a stupid idea. (Her: I hope you're not expecting to get them back.) Then talking with my MIL last night she said that for SIL, CDs would be "completely out of the question." They're not against CDs in general, but no one thinks that my SIL would be able to handle the extra laundry involved. It just makes me so sad and frustrated that they think she can't make it work or won't take care of anything I lend her. I know it wouldn't be easy with 4 kids, but their dismissive attitude drives me nuts. Way to be supportive, family. Argh. And the reason all this came up was b/c the aunt asked me to organize a Diaper & Wipes shower for SIL. It all makes me want to go buy a whole stash for SIL and drive to her house EOD to do the daggum laundry for her.

Re: In-Law Vent

  • Ugh.  Closed mindedness drives me crazy.

I hate when people say "You can't CD/BF/have a pain med-free birth/whatever."  Really, when it comes to our kids us mom's can make just about anything work if we are committed to it.  Before DS2 I thought I'd chicken out & get an epidural, maybe BF for 2 months, start CD'ing and end up giving up.  Instead I put my mind to it, and have achieved way more than I thought I was capable of.

Just keep supporting your SIL in whatever she decides to do!

And ((hugs)) don't let your IL's get you down.  You're too cool for that!

  • Why do some people have to be so negative about cloth diapering? Good for you for being supportive.

  • @Chickypoo2468, the aunt thinks she'll ruin or lose anything she borrows, and I assume that MIL thinks she won't keep up with the laundry. No one seems to care how much her "one income, 3 kids in diapers" family could benefit from CDing even just 1 of the kids.
