I'd like to throw DH a beer-tasting party. Is it tacky to ask guests to bring a 6 pack of beer they love instead of presents? Also, what goes with beer? I was thinking big pretzels. DH wants pizza.
Not tacky. One of our friends did that for his birthday.
He asked that people bring their favorite beer and a proper accompanying food. One person brought a chocolate porter and chocolate/raspberry cupcakes. Another person brought a German Wheat beer and german pretzels with a selection of different mustards. Yet another brought Coors Light and a frozen pizza.
It was fantastic and everyone had a great time trying all the beers and foods.
Unable to even.

Also, the beers had to be in a 20, 22, or 40 oz bottle instead of individual bottles since it was a beer tasting and everyone got a little of every kind of beer. There were about 35 people who showed up and everyone brought at least a 22oz of beer.

I don't think it is if it's meant as a way for everyone to try the beers and find others they like not just for your DH to hoard beers. I'd still plan on having additional beer or wine on hand as well though.
We always have this Jalapeno Popper Dip at parties and it's a huge hit. I serve it with Ritz crackers and tortilla chips. I usually 1/2 since I always go overboard with food but if you arent serving many other things the full batch should be fine. https://pinterest.com/pin/200269514650397256/
Another super easy dip that's aways a huge hit for us:
1 Large bag of Mexican shredded cheese (4 cups) or 1 bag of shredded chedder and 1 bag of shredded Mozzarella (2 cup bags each)
2 medium sided tomatoes, diced
1 small bunch of green onions (maybe 5-8 onions), chopped (use the green part only)
1 bottle of ranch dressing
Mix together first 3 ingredients, then add enough ranch dressing to bind it/dampen all of it.
Chill for 2-3 hours in advance and serve with tortilla chips. Always run out on this one.
Wait, your friends don't bring beer automatically to parties?
Ha. No. I can't count the number of times I've been told I was tacky for not providing a keg or cases of beer when we have people over for a gathering.
Seriously? We always end up with more beer than we started with at the end of a party. We just had a party 2 weeks ago and I had to force people to take beer back with them since I was like "Guys I needed to have the party to get rid of beer and wine we can't take to AU with us. I don't need more I need less! I'm pregnant and DH leaves in 10 days so take it or it gets tossed when we move."

It sounds like a lot of fun and I think it's perfectly fine at ask everyone to bring a six pack. I think any kind of munchies goes with beer. Here's a dip I make and serve with pretzels that has beer in it. It's really good. I use half a pack of bacon instead of bacon bits and mix most of it in the dip and put just a little on top.
Some friends of ours do this every year. Like CG mentioned its generally bombers or growlers. The host couple built these troughs to hold all the beers in a line on the table. Lots of people dress up in German beer girl costumes and such. Here's a pic of the beer - sorry about the weird crop I was keeping people's faces out.

Here's another one I've been meaning to try that looks promising: https://pinterest.com/pin/200269514651711701/
