Babies: 3 - 6 Months

I want to change my 2 month old's NAME

I know it seems crazy, but surprisingly, I feel its NOT a good fit.  I was originally hesitant about naming him that because it didnt sound good with my sons name. However, we just decided to go with it. Now, two months later, im still absolutely not feeling comfortable with it.  Not sharing the names on here because its irrelevant. I just want to know if I CAN change it and if any other moms out there ever went through this as well?

Not sure what to do??? :(

Re: I want to change my 2 month old's NAME

  • I had ds1, dd, and my names changed in 2009. The kids were about 12 and 17 years old at that point and names chosen were of their own chosing. It cost me about $75 each to do so and I would have needed their fathers approval but the judge ruled that since xh was in prison for felony child abuse he had waived his rights inthis case.

Since there really is no rush, take your time and consider the new name to be chosen and how changing LOs name will impact your other children.

  • My daughter is two months old and for the first month I considered it.

My mother regretted my brother's name but didn't change it. My father also wanted to change the name but didn't speak up enough. (Bad comminication) They talked about it a few years back and both still regret his name. He is 40.

If you really feel you picked the wrong name, change it.
  • If the dad consents its easy to do
  • I'm a little confused. Is it his first or last name you want to change?
  • Could you give him a nickname and go by that??
  • I considered it with my DD when she was about 2 months old. I liked the name but was worried it didn't suit her. With DH's approval, I decided to try calling her by her middle name instead. I lasted barely a day, and realized that the name we originally gave her WAS her name. For me, it helped to finally put to rest the doubts I had.
  • also agree - call the baby the name you WANT and see how it goes for a week. do you feel better about it? if yes, then go change it!

@blush64 - what does your brother think of his name?

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!

Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!

  • I considered changing my 3 month olds name- but instead have just opted to call her a short form of it.

As an aside my dad has 3 given names- none if which he goes by. When he was a child someone saw a certificate on the wall with his dads name and thought it was his- as a result people started calling him by his dads name and it stuck. He is 80 now and goes by his dads name. Never legally changed anything.
  • Sorry for the late reply. My brother didn't like his name growing up. He is fine with it now although he has said he would never give that name to a child. He is used to it but will never love his name. I actually like it better than he does.
