My friend is nuts.

I seriously don't even know what to say to her.

She is 34 years old and I would describe her as the never-been-kissed type, she's never been in a relationship and I know she's always wanted to be. I think that's part of the reason for this...

A couple weeks ago she started posting on FB multiple times every day all about the "love of her life."  It's nonstop, probably 5 times a day she posts about him and always says "the love of my life."

The love of her life, it turns out, is a 51 year old guy (I can't really judge the age difference, DH and I are 11 years apart, but it's still a pretty big gap...) who lives over a thousand miles away.  They have never met in person (like I said, she only just "met" him online a few weeks ago). But they talk on the phone and Skype and have talked about "everything under the sun."  She is so excited to meet him but they don't know when it will happen.

I hope it happens before their wedding...which is June 14th.  Yeah, they're getting married.

  • Oh, and when I questioned what the rush was, maybe you should meet first etc....the response was that they aren't getting any younger and...you guessed it...they wanna make bebes!

I just couldn't resist. 17 years wouldn't seem like *that* big of a deal if not combined with all the other red flags here.
Yep, I definitely agree.  Makes it more interesting   I'm just at a total loss for words, I can't pick my jaw off the floor since she told me they have a wedding date!

    Oh dear...

If it makes you feel any better, one of my mom's coworkers from work did almost the exact same thing. She met some guy online who claimed to be a millionaire who lived in California (we live in Canada) and could give her everything she had ever wanted. He was also extremely good looking.
She is extremely obese (like, morbidly, can't walk obese), and has a whole host of serious health conditions. She'd also never been in a relationship before at 35 years old.... and she had, like, 10 cats.
He said he loved cats, and he thought her body was sexy, and he didn't mind that she could never leave the house due to all her health problems.
She moved to California to marry him without ever having met him first, despite everyone's protests. My mom and her friends thought for sure she was going to get killed by some crazy person.

They've been happily married for 10 years!! He turned out to be everything he said he was, and he spent a fortune helping her with her weight and health problems, and she's now at a much better place (though still very large, her life is no longer at risk. She posts pictures on Facebook of them outside their massive mansion, of them on yet another trip to the Bahamas, and them snuggled up on the couch surrounded by, like, 20 cats. I guess they were perfect for one another.......
Holy crapp!!! That's awesome and sad all at once!

    Huh? What's sad about it?

  • My uncle met his wife this way, minus the huge age gap. They got married very quickly after having only seen each other a handful of times, got pregnant right away because they were both older and wanted children, and now have four kids and have been happily married for 17 years. You never know. I would be happy for her and hope for the best, since she's probably been really lonely all these years.

  • Don't get me wrong, I actually met my DH online too. But we were together for quite awhile before we decided to get married. I'm sorry, but setting a wedding date without someone you've never met is cray cray.

  • Yeah, definitely would be side-eyeing the engagement before meeting thing.

I have to add my own online story. When I was 16, this 24 year old guy started randomly chatting me up on AIM (instant messenger - to this day, I have no idea how he found me) and just starting talking about random things. Within a couple months, we were basically, well, I don't even know what you call it. Having online sex? Sexting through the computer? He had convinced me to come meet him, but my car was too unreliable. Thank the Lord. I don't know why we ever stopped talking, but looking back, what on earth was I thinking? Geez, I was young and stupid.

That's awesome! About the cat lady who was morbidly obese. That was nice to hear a happy ending.
