Overwhelmed

I'm seriously overwhelmed with all the party planning for W's birthday. There are way too many ideas out there and I have total analysis paralysis. I was thinking a Cat in the Hat theme, but I still have a ton of work to do in 5.5 weeks, so now I'm leaning toward no theme. Isn't it supposed to be fun to plan this stuff?!

Re: Overwhelmed

  • Don't stress! We're doing something low key with just family! I picked a theme but I'm not going crazy with it! Your LO will love you just the same!

This. I didn't exactly pick a theme, either. We're just decorating in primary rainbow colors. The most work I'm doing is making the invites and favor tags. That's it. Keeping it simple and low key.

This. We have a bear theme, but I'm not going crazy with it. Have fun, enjoy the day and take a ton of pics. Your LO won't know the difference.

    This. Exactly.

We are doing rainbow as well. I am printing a few pics to display... and making construction paper pennant flags. But that's it. I'm not doing hard invites, just evites. Simple. She doesn't care. Save the stress for when they know what's going on.

  • Aw! Don't let it stress you out! We are doing Cat in the Hat. The advantage to it is you can use a lot of red and blue. That simplifies it a little! Everything will turn out great.

  • I know W totally won't know the difference or think anything of it. I pretty much did this to myself by sending out tons of courtesy invites not knowing that 40ish people would end up RSVPing. Even DH's parents are flying in from out of state. Now I just feel this pressure to have an amazing party, even though I know it totes doesn't matter. I usually love things like this, which is why I thought it would be NBD and was really excited about it. I think I'm just really tired and unmotivated right now, but hopefully that will change soon and I can get moving on it.
  • I get the pressure aspect. We're inviting 30 people--at least 20 will show, because that's all family. Just remind yourself the majority are coming to see LO and celebrate. They aren't going to be judging you party planning skillz. And if they do, you can tell them where to shove it!

  • I'm stressing too- more about location and food. I can't have it at our house, we just don't have the room. So I was thinking the in-laws, but MIL told me last week that they are starting renovations in September so that's a no-go. It will my at my parents, but I'm stressing about that for some reason.
I then wanted to do BBQ but realized I don't want to be stuck at the bbq all night. So I'm just going to do pulled pork and coleslaw or something.

Then I want to play games, but my family is such a non-game family that I have gotten some serious eye-rolls not that I care) about it, but I said they would be short and fun.

    Oh the joys!
