My name is Rachael, people called me Rach a lot growing up, and still do.  My mom called me Cheena a lot when I was little, which is bizarre but that is her nicknaming style People at my last job called me Kid.  Right after I graduated nursing school and started working at the hospital I was 22, but looked like I was about 16, and one of the doctors started calling me this, the girls heard, and it caught on.

Besides a college nickname from an inside joke, I've never had one. Not even with my family. Probably why I find all the help me with a NN posts so curious. Sure NNs can be fun, but they aren't necessary to life. IMO, seems like something to come organically out of meeting and knowing someone.

My nickname has always been Sam and it suits me well.  It still feels weird to hear people call me by my full name (minus my parents, of course). 

Growing up, I had a soccer coach call me Sam-I-Am for years and I hated it. I also hated "Sammy" b/c it was too girly for me, until my little cousin started calling me that as a toddler - then it was Ok. But only him and one close family friend were/are allowed to call me that.
