My sister's OB said that she needed to be induced a few days ago for medical reasons (low amniotic fluid and placenta issues). They did Cervadil overnight and then started pitocin in the morning. After a full day of pitocin with absolutely zero progress (no effacement, no dilation) ?they ended up just sending my sister home and deciding to just wait until she goes into labor naturally.?
Funny thing is, my sister asked repeatedly if it was really necessary and the OB insisted that yes, an induction was?legitimately?necessary that day. And yet the OB sent her home the next day, so I guess it wasn't as necessary as the doctor made it seem the previous day...? The doctor said that since the baby did just fine throughout all of the?monitoring?while on pitocin that she was no longer worried.?
I'd never heard of such a thing happening before. ?Anyone else ever experience something similar?

Inductions fail all the time but usually if there's an issue with the placenta and fluid, they would usually end up doing C/S. I was a RN in L&D.
We did send people home with failed inductions if they were being induced for smaller issues, like potentially a big baby etc. Not if there was a definite medical concern.
Maybe your sis's fluid level was up (it fluctuates day to day), and if the heartrate looked go throughout the induction, then it's likely the placenta is perfusing normally. Of course, it's hard to speculate not hearing exactly what the doc was saying!
