Anterior Placenta question

I'm 18 weeks along and we had our A/S thursday and they told me we had an anterior placenta. I've been reading about it and I understand that I wont be ablw to feel baby move for a little while longer. I've felt her move and I can feel flutters in low in my abdomen. I was wondering how many of you had an anterior placenta and how you are faring. Can you feel the baby move, kick pretty regularly. Has your doctor made any decisions about your labor do they suspect a c-section or harder labor etc.?

Re: Anterior Placenta question

  • I have an AP and didn't feel any type of movement until around 23 weeks. I'm at 28 weeks now and feeling regular daily movement.

  • AP should not have any role in l&d. I had an AP and vaginally delivered beautiful twin girls.

  • AP should only affect delivery if it is also low and covering the cervix....which is not necessarily the case. I started feeling small flutters around 18 weeks....now at 28 I feel him daily, however it may not be as much as I would feel if I didn't have AP.

  • I have an Anterior Placenta and its affected the movement I feel. I'm 38 weeks and feel consistent movement but its nothing like the movement others describe. I just had a non stress test and it was amazing to see how much this baby moves yet I really didn't feel a lot of it. Its rather stressful especially after having a previous loss.

Movement is the only thing it should effect though no need for a c section unless you have previa which is different than an AP.

  • I wasn't feeling much until maybe 22-23 weeks. I'm 27 now and definitely feel him shift and kick me these days. It won't be long!

  • I have AP and it affected movement in the beginning. I feel her all the time now at 28 weeks. Only thing it could affect labor wise would be IF you needed a c section depending on placement would be where they'd have to cut.
And if it were move to cover the cervix you would need a c section but they wouldn't determine that until delivery.

  • I had it with my first pregnancy.  Made no difference in the delivery of the baby, just that I didn't feel movement as strongly as I might have.  With this 2nd pregnancy, I don't have AP and I can easily tell you that there is a HUGE difference in the amount of movement that I feel.

Then they'd likely diagnose you with placenta previa and yeah, that's a much different deal.

  • I have an AP and was told it wouldn't have an impact on delivery. It took quite awhile to feel anything other than flutters and rolls. Initially any kick I felt were very low. Now that I'm past 39 weeks I feel much more, especially near my ribs because baby is pretty big and isn't completely hiding behind the placenta. I probably started feeling a lot more around 35 weeks or so.

  • I started feeling very small movements on occasion at about 16 weeks. I've never heard that an anterior placenta would have any effect on labor in the least, just that it could mean feeling less movement for awhile.

  • I had anterior placenta with my second pregnancy and eventually I was able to feel baby move just fine.  It does not place you at any higher risk for c-section or long/rough labor.  My labor was short and relatively easy!

  • I had an AP and didn't feel any "kicks" until about 28 weeks. Before that, it felt like something was swimming around in there, but I was sure if it was her or gas bubbles. Even when she starting kicking she was very lazy and it was mostly an elbow, knee or foot rolling around every now and then. This was especially true the last 5 weeks.
  • I have it...I didnt feel regular movement until 24 weeks (I think..its been awhile so i cant remember exactly) But now at almost 35 weeks I feel tons of movement. The doctor said anterior placenta will have causebno problems during labor and delivery.

  • I had an anterior placenta for my first. It didn't cause any problems. I still felt movement pretty early. My DH was able to feel kicks around 20 weeks, I felt kicks before 15 weeks. But this really varies by woman. The kicks should get strong enough that you should regularly feel them.

This pregnancy, I do not have an anterior placenta and I do feel kicks more frequently. My DD also had a short cord, so she may have just been less active, but I do feel a lot more this pregnancy.

  • I've had an anterior placenta with both pregnancies and felt movement around 21 weeks.  It had no bearing on L&D.
