Comments?

Today E and I did a Tour de Target just to get out of the house and while there we were stopped so many times by people asking how old she was because she looks like a newborn (umm 5.5 weeks), how tiny she is, how cute she is and how alert.

What kind of comments do you get while our in public with your LO? Do any of them drive you nutty?  The small one always gets me because I'm paranoid that she is such a slow weight gainer already I don't need strangers comments adding to my paranoia.

I also noticed the people most likely to come over and have a conversation are grandmothers.  LOL.

Re: Comments?

  • YUP! I get this all the time when I am out with O. Most are grandmothers and they always want to come take a peek. Even the younger people like teen girls will "aww" at O. I was at costco last week carrying O in the K'tan and this guy came over and awwed over O and told his wife to come look. They asked how old he was and told me congrats.
When O was a week or two old I took him to the Pedi and people were asking me how old he was. I told them (whatever age he was...I don't remember) and they told me OH! he looks so much older!!

He def. still looked like a fresh newborn at that time!

  • I get comments about how cute she is. i am always worried that people are going to touch her but so far people have behaved themselves lol.

I find that kids are more likely to point out my lo.
  • I love all of the comments, lol.  DD was 5 pounds at birth and now, at 2 months, she's probably a whopping 8 pounds.  So she's a peanut and everyone thinks she's brand new.  She was 3 weeks early, so maybe that's why.  I have had a lot of people come up and say "congratulations".  So nice!

I was returning something at Janie and Jack and the saleswoman went bananas over DD. She was a grandmother type and was just gaga over my kid.  It was kind of distracting actually as I was just trying to shop in peace.  ;-)

But overall, I think people in public are nicest to pregnant women and women with newborns.  It kind of has restored my faith in humanity, lol.

  • I get a lot of "She's so pretty" or the alert thing.  I also get small, but I don't understand that because I don't think she is small at all.  She's 10lbs 5.5 ounces at 2 months old.  It's not huge, but not small!  I think it's because she is petite.  I also get, and this is when DH and I are together mostly, "She looks just like you" or (his people at work say this) "He didn't have much to do with that."  That's a little annoying.

  • @nykkolhooks She is seriously adorable!

I get a lot of "he's so tiny" too, but yeah he's 11.5 pounds at 6 weeks. He's a pork chop! I do get a little jumpy when people start to get close to him, which is why I usually drape a blanket over him if he's in the back of the cart in his car seat.

  • I get "Look at all that hair!" from just about everyone... and many say "She is so tiny!"   :) She is just over 9 lbs at 11 weeks. I don't mind it.

  • When I going anywhere with the twins we're basically a freak show. Everyone wants to know if they're twins. If they are two boys, two girls, Or one of each. If they're identical. (Ps boy/ girl twins can't be identical). When they find out we have one of each they always tell us we can be done. Gee Thanks for telling me how many kids to have. How early they were. If we used fertility treatments. Etc.

I get the "he looks just like his daddy, sorry mom!" a lot.  I also get he's very alert and an "intense" baby (he often squishes his eyebrows together as if he's in deep thought)

Also, last night at the grocery store I held back as a woman (grocery worker) who was handling eggs insisted on touching DS's hand and "just wanted to pinch his cheeks".  I don't like to judge, but this woman appeared far from clean, missing teeth, etc.  Please stop touching my newborn's hand that he will most certainly stick in his mouth in 2 seconds!

Don't feel bad for the judging. A homeless women asked me to see the baby when I had a blanket draped over the carseat. I told her no.
  • I get the "so small" comment all the time too. To which I politely respond, "her doctors says she's perfect". How big do people expect babies to be?

    Anniversary

  • I have only taken my LO to friends or families houses but now that he's had his shots we will be venturing out starting this weekend. Nobody better touch I would slap a hand away on reflex!

  • People are always saying how big DS is, which is true. At pedi today he was 13.4 lbs and 25" long at 9 weeks! Everyone thinks he's like 3 or 4 months.

Other than that it's always how cute he is and how much hair.

  • I had someone stalking me at the grocery store in order to see DS. I thought I was in her way over and over again, bu she just wanted to be close enough to look at him. Weird!
  • I wear B a lot when I am out and about. People generally don't make comments directly to me, just about me and B loud enough that I can hear them. Things like "oh my gosh, she has a baby in there." Yeah, and you know what else I have? EARS!!! I can hear you!! When he is in his carseat, people will talk directly to me, but apparently when I am baby wearing, I am a crazy person that can't be talked to.

I experience the same thing... so now I wear my LO anytime we are in public. Keeps everyone away

I usually hear how cute he is, what beautiful eyes he has, and how alert he is. We used to get how small he was a lot before, but as he gets older we don't hear that as much. None of these comments really bother me. If they were to say he were pudgy or fat, that might bother me. I am overweight myself, and if people made those comments, I would almost feel like they felt it was my fault he was pudgy because I am fat. But luckily he is average size for his age, so no one has said that yet.
  • I get asked how old, how big, what's her name, and told she looks a lot like me. My coworkers called her Stephanie Jr. I don't mind it, although I can't really see it. She looks like a baby to me. But I've stopped saying that, because then people feel obliged to point out which likenesses they see. Thank goodness no one has tried to touch her yet.

At 9 weeks mine was 14.3lb, so I get the big comment a lot. The oddest comment I got was at trader.joes last week when an older lady asked if I had a baby underneath the blanket I had over his car seat. 1. Why the hell would I wheel around a stroller without a baby. 2. She didn't even want to see him. After she asked she walked away. People are so weird!

  • I agree, if I am wearing him, I get a lot of stares. I have only gotten one person comment on how nice it must be to wear him instead of lugging around the car seat. If I put him in the seat portion of the shopping cart in the car seat, I can't see over it :(

Definitely don't put him in the seat portion!  It's for toddlers, not for car seats.  So many scary stories about babies injured because parents insist the car seat is meant to fit in that spot!
