3rd Trimester

EDD and induction

So reading the previous posts about how far you would go over your EDD got me thinking....what if the EDD my OB is using isnt what I think it is? According to LMP it should be 10/19, according to when I think we conceived 10/22, and my dating u/s put me at 10/28. My OB goes by u/s...so my concern is they will let me go too far past EDD. Should I be concerned about this?

Re: EDD and induction

  • really as long as it was an early u/s it is your best method of dating. Plus as you are going over weekly nst's become a thing to make sure fluid levels and everything else are within good levels.

  • Talk to your OB. What actual due date did he give you? Discuss your concern.

Most don't like to go past 41 weeks anyway. See at what point he will induce you.

  • Early u/s are are better indicator for gestational age (and therefore EDD) than LMP dating. Unless you had IVF it's impossible to estimate conception. If you were charting you might have an idea of when you ovulated, but you don't know when you conceived, which is why they use LMP dating.

  • OB is going by early u/s at 7weeks...I just know some that go by LMP, which wild put me at 10/19 instead of 10/28.

  • I would be more concerned about being induced too early than too late.

This. And early u/s is the most accurate dating. Sperm can live up to 5 days so saying you "conceived" on a certain day means nothing. And LMP is a useless date if you aren't tracking ovulation. (By LMP I'm 40 w today, by O I'm 38w, and by early u/s 37w5. I go by O in my head, but never argue t doctors since it gives me 2 more days before they go with induction)
If you're really concerned about being overbaked without induction, ask for a BPP to ensure your fluid levels and cord blood flow is good.
