Interview today...

Ok so, I boldly applied for a new job for a multitude of reasons but figured that as slow as HR is I would be ON maternity leave by the time they wanted to hire someone and they wouldn't have to wait long for me to start... Unfortunately this job was posted last Monday.  A recruiter called me Tuesday, A Secretary to the Manager called me Thursday and Today I have the interview.  I expected to show up pregnant but I also expected to be like "By the time you make a decision I will already be on Maternity leave and could start whenever you need me"  Now I have to show up 7 months pregnant and by the time they would want me to start I would probably HAVE the baby   I love this company and I am not even nervous to interview but Seriously how stupid is it to walk into an interview 7 months pregnant.  I am afraid this guy is going to think I am wasting his time.  God KNOWS he isn't going to hire me.  Any Advice?

That's a tough one but I would probably address it right away by making a joke/comment about how quickly you heard back from them (obviously quicker than you were expecting to). Then asking them, should they decide you are the right person for the job, would they be okay with a start date of when you expect to return from maternity leave.  That way you are acknowledging the "elephant" in the room and finding out if it's even an issue before wasting your or his time.   Just because they are interviewing now doesn't mean that they will be looking for someone to start right away as well, or that they wouldn't be willing to leave the position either open, or fill with a temp, until you are available again.

just be honest and say you are hoping to start after maternity  leave, and launch into why you want the job and what you can bring to it.  the end

What CV said. Don't dance around the subject. If you're the best person for the job then that's that. Be prepared, address it head on, explain to the interviewer your plan for childcare, etc. and why you are their best candidate. Unless you're saying you weren't going to work after having the baby?? Then don't waste their time or yours and don't do the interview.

Oh I am definitely working post baby.  I want this position for several reasons but most important it is 15 minutes from home and not 45 like my current job.  I am not even nervous to interview just to see this guys face when I walk in Super Prego lol!  I think these are all good suggestions.  Address the elephant that is growing out of my body and move on.  If they like me enough I will get it, if not maybe they will consider me in the future when I am not all prego.

Good luck!  I've gotten thrown several very tempting leads and have been totally petrified to go interview pregnant.  Not to mention the issues I'd have with insurance coverage trying to switch jobs in the middle of a pregnancy.

I interviewed for my current position at 7 months pregnant and got it :-)  I brought it up at the interview just to make sure they knew I had no intention of ever being a SAHM (I thought they might be worried that they'd give me the job and then I'd choose not to come back) and the entire hiring committee covered their ears and said "we aren't allowed to ask you about that, we are not taking it into consideration, don't worry!!"
