Moving to Barksdale AFB

We will be moving from Okinawa to Barksdale this November. I am pregnant with our first child, due early December.
I have heard not so good things about this area. Mostly that it is dirty and not super safe.
We have always lived off-base. We are thinking about using Barksdale Housing this time around. I am not usually a fan of on-base housing just because there is less privacy, but if Shreveport/Bossier is really not all that great for neighborhoods I am willing to go with base housing.
Has anyone been stationed here? Thoughts of base vs. off-base housing?

I haven't been there but I would suggest if you are on facebook to find their spouses page and ask questions there. Then you can get the most up to date information.
Good luck on your PCS. Do be mindful that you can't fly after 36 weeks so depending on when you fly in Nov you may not be able to.
