So I have a question as I'm nearing labor of my twins. I read things about stillborn babies but what I don't understand is what makes them stillborn. I am at the dr 3 times a week for check ups and monitoring to ensure all looks good. I would expect the day I deliver for the babies to be checked. If all is well, how does a stillborn birth occur? Are there any signs prior to delivering?
Re: Stillborn babies
Please don't worry about this. There are several different causes of stillbirth- some that can be prevented and some that can't.
For example, there can be a placental abruption - the only sign of which would be some bleeding, which is fairly normal close to the time of delivery. A cord accident is another cause - and one that can usually not be seen on US nor prevented. I also had a friend whose baby had the equivalent of a heart attack at 39 weeks. She had had all the screening beforehand but it could not have been detected.
We all hear horror stories but this is a tiny, small percentage and the majority of babies are all born healthy.
