Cloth Diapering

Best bottoms or other snap in insert

Hi ladies, I'm new to the cd board, DH asked me about CDing LO when we first found out we were expecting and I dismissed him. After hearing more, researching, talking with a mom who uses CD and visiting a CD store we are interested in CD that have snap in inserts (no stuffing) we like the idea of being able to double up the inserts (cloth not disposable) and of not having to was the cover with every change. We also are looking at convience for our sitter when I return to work, so pre-folds are not attractive to the idea of telling the sitter to think if it like a didposable diaper, put it on and go. Do you have a brand you prefer?

Re: Best bottoms or other snap in insert

  • I do like my Best Bottoms. I have a light wetter and while ebf he only has small and infrequent poops but is a happy baby so I dont know how they work with heavy wetters with or without the doublers. I usually carry a spare cover and two clean inserts in the diaper bag for short or local trips. Dh loves how easy they are for him to use and they have been easy enough that I have changed him using only the light from the nightlight without trouble.

  • I'm kind of neutral toward them. They're definitely not for chunky thighs! My son barely fits into the one BB cover I have. Personally, I think snap-ins would work better once they're having more "ploppable" poops. Unless you don't mind changing the cover every time they poop! I have a very diverse stash because I think different styles work better for different things. I like prefolds and covers for home, and pockets for DH and the sitter. Right now though I'm REALLY loving my BumGenius Elemental AIO and my TotsBots AIO. Everyone is different though, it's fun to play and find what works for you! That was a digression- I am holding on to my BB cover because I'm hoping to love it more once DS has ploppable poops and his thighs slim down.

  • We use best bottoms and another All in Two system called SoftBums and love both equally. The first month, LO pooped a lot so we didn't get to reuse the shells as often. I also love the snap in inserts and the best bottoms and SoftBums inserts both use snaps. In fact, the snaps are the exact same so we can interchange the inserts with both brands if we need to.
  • I've used best bottoms. I wanted to love them bug they were way too tight for dd. she is tall and skinny and they would still leave red marks on her thighs. I used grovia and lived the fit but she leaked all the time. I now only use flips. The insert doesn't slide around too bad once you figure out the fit for your lo. I also never have leaks.

  • Thank you ladies! Sounds like I may need some stuffables as well and maybe a couple prefolds for when I'm home. I want to make it easy for the sitter and DH or anyone that might change her.
  • Honestly AIOs or pockets will be the very easiest for a sitter.  They are the most similar to a sposie.  That being said, I big time love my best bottoms.  They are great during the day with a single insert, and hold up for 12 hours overnight with a doubler and the cotton/hemp insert.  They have double leg gussets, so even when LO has a huge poo, we may not be able to reuse the cover, but it doesn't leak.  MH doesn't prefer them because he can't figure out how to change out the inserts without touching the pee.  Somehow the thought of touching a little bit of pee doesn't bother me, but it does him.  So that is something to consider with an AI2 system.  Best bottoms also have super cute prints!

  • I loved BBs.  If I ever have another, I'm going 80% BBs for my non newborn stash, the rest will be a mix of prefolds and AIOs.
