Rib pain:(

I am a FTM and I had no idea that rib pain was so bad in the 3rd tri! I feel like it is broken! Am I crazy or am I being a total baby? Haha! Is anyone else experiencing this?? It is hard to breath and hurts to twist...or move at all haha.

I have been Icing & taking Tylenol for pain.. Any other suggestions!?

Re: Rib pain:(

  • That has caught me off guard as well! I'm also a FTM, and something I've done to help is stretching my arms above my head, or getting up and walking around a bit.  Also, and I'm not sure if this is a bad or good thing to do here, but sometimes if I gently push on my bump near the area where I'm having the pain sometimes Baby moves enough out of the way so I can breathe again.

Watch, I'm going to get crap for that last comment :-P

  • I had horrible rib pain during my first pregnancy. Thankfully, I seem to be carrying lower this time so it hasn't been as bad. There honestly isn't much you can do to relieve the pain. Try changing positions when the pain is bad in order to get the baby to move. Feel better soon!

  • I was having horrible back pain, and a little rib pain on one side. I started wearing a back brace for the back pain, and it pushed her up into my ribs more and made the pain there worse (and didn't really do a whole lot for the back pain). My doctor said it can happen that the baby causes rib separation. Luckily she's moved positions, and I've stopped wearing the back brace and both pains are magically gone! My back still aches a little at night, but NOTHING like it was.

    I hope that helps.  :-/
  • Been dealing with this since week 21. Mine hurts me while sitting. I just assumed I would deal with it until the end.

  • Try standing up and extending your arms out parallel to the ground. Then gently rotate from side to side slowly. That should help the baby move and give you some relief. Also, get down on all fours so your belly is hanging and gently sway from side to side. That should help also. And if all else fails, take a hot cup of tea and set it on your rib cage. The warmth should make the baby move away.

I will gently push the baby out of the way too when he's in my ribs. Sometimes moving around/ shifting positions helps too.

  • I have this as well. I actually had an appt today and my midwife said that baby actually stretches out skeleton which is what I am feeling in my ribs. She also said that stretching with arms above head to lengthen your body helps. It brings me some relief, but unfortunately, it sounds like we are stuck with this until baby arrives!! Don't fret though, you aren't alone! :)
