Diagnose me, Dr. Bump

Before I start listing my super fun symptoms, I have been to the doctor and she recommended that I come back after weaning for more tests. Oh, and I have Poas and got a bfn.

I wake up starving every morning. I eat (different types of foods and different amounts every day) and then I feel nauseated. I get random cramps/bloating throughout the day that lasts maybe 30 ish minutes then I feel fine until around 8 at night when I feel super bloated. Nothing seems to correlate with or cause it. I've tried cutting different foods and nothing. Also I kind of feel constipated but I'm not. HALP!

Re: Diagnose me, Dr. Bump

  • You need to cut out dairy and grains for over 30 days to really know if you have a sensitivity to them. Then slowly reintroduce one at a time. It sucks but is worth it.

  • Your doctor should be able to do a blood test for celiac disease, which would be a major cause for a gluten intolerance, so that way you could find out sooner than 30 days of elimination diet if that's the cause.

I'd give probiotics a shot, on the off chance they help.  Keep paying attention to your poop- I have irritable bowel syndrome, which gives me a ton of bloating and certain food insensitivities, but that would cause either constipation or diarrhea or both.  If you do get constipated, I can't say enough good things about taking a fiber supplement (metamucil or citrucel) to keep me regular and lessen the bloat.  (I got diagnosed with IBS after a colonoscopy to rule out crohn's or ulcerative colitis.)

Are you taking prenatals or multivitamins?  I've had nausea in the past from taking a multivitamin on too empty a stomach- could you be getting too much of a certain vitamin?

That's all I can think of- hopefully it turns out to be something simple like a food to avoid.

  • Do gluten/dairy/all delicious food sensitivities come out of nowhere? I've noticed it for about 2 months. And I have had 3 pp periods with like 40 something day cycles due to bf. Mh is convinced it's my gallbladder but I think he just has that in his mind because mil just had hers out.
I had my gallbladder out 8 weeks after DD was born, and didn't have symptoms like these... My only symptom was gallstone attacks that lasted 2-10 hours long and left me writhing on the bathroom floor and using my labor breathing to try to find relief from the intense pain.  If it is gallbladder related and you aren't having pain that sends you to the ER, I'd try to wait it out to see if you get out of it without needing surgery, because that would be mild for gallstones...
  • I would have a check done for celiac and if it comes back negative still try cutting it out for a while to see if it helps. If you have celiac and are eating gluten, you could be causin major problems with your intestines/digestive system. My grandpa, who is 86, is celiac and he was diagnosed when he was around 75, so it isn't something you are necessarily born with. I have a few friends who have had similar symptoms as you and while not celiac, they have greatly benefitted from reducing the amount of gluten in their diet. It's worth a shot! Best of luck!
