3rd Trimester

Is your nursery ready?

I'm approaching 31 weeks and entering anxiety mode because we have done nothing in the nursery. We have been so busy and have had no time. I'm having some friends over to paint in 2 weeks so after that we can set up our crib and move furniture from DDs room and order a dresser. THEN I can wash and put away clothes. I feel like I'm going to finish just in time for baby's arrival. How's your nursery coming along?

Re: Is your nursery ready?

  • Nope. Not even a little bit.

  • We have all of his furniture and his bedding.  We have a shower not this coming weekend but the weekend after and then Labor Day weekend, so after that it's go time.  I'll be washing all his clothes and getting things organized once we get all that out of the way and go shopping for what else is needed.  We aren't painting, but I want to find some collage frames to put on the wall.
  • We didn't have everything really ready until a couple weeks ago. We had an incident with back-ordered furniture that held us up. I was really anxious and stressed about it but everything worked out just fine. I think you'll have plenty of time to get everything accomplished so don't worry too much!

  • we have the furniture in but thats about it. Her room looks like babies r us store exploded in there. I have most of the clothes washed and slowly starting to put them away
  • Not there yet...

  • I'm down to the finishing touches and will hopefully complete those this week, just in the nick of time.

  • I wouldn't stress it! We didn't have our nursery put together fully until 2 weeks ago (I'm 36 weeks). You'll get it done. Just remind yourself that babies really need very little those first few weeks :)
  • I was really stressed about the nursery too but babygirl will be in our room, in the co-sleeper, the first several weeks.. so it's really nothing to stress over!! In the end, it will a get done. It's just nesting mode and hormones kicking in!!! try not to stress! I know I've been a crazy lady about that and various other things.. not worth it!
  • If you plan to co-sleep, there is really no need or rush for a nursery at first. I was adamant about having everything just perfect for my DD. we didn't even use her room until she was seven months old. My DS is two months old, and we are just now working on the nursery. The only reason we are doing it now is so he can nap peacefully during the day.
  • We are currently in a two bdrm rental so dd2 does not even have a nursery. She will be staying in our bdrm with usxandcwe bought her a mini pnp yesterday.

  • Nope. We moved DS to a bigger room and just finished getting him settled yesterday. Next weekend we need to put together the crib and swing and hang up the curtains and decorations in the nursery. I'll be just past 36 weeks. I have washed 80% of the newborn clothes and put them in her dresser though. We have a bassinet and RnP plus a box of newborn diapers. If she came tomorrow we'd be fine!

  • Haven't done a thing with it yet, in fact it still is currently being used as my office.  Some work needs to be done in the basement first before we can move the desks and computers down there so we can start turning it from an office to a nursery.

  • We have most everything ready, just some random things and decorative stuff left. But like PP said if you plan to co sleep than LO won't use the nursery for a while. Although for me I really like to have things ready, especially since this is our first LO and I have no idea what to expect when it comes to be a parent. I did not want to have to worry about getting things ready after she was here and I had to account for her in my daily routine.

  • Not a thing!  If all goes with this baby as with our previous 2, we have very refluxy babies that typically end up staying in our room for the first 3-4 months.  Plus we will be moving into a new house in the near future, and don't yet have said house, so until we know what the bedroom situation is going to be, we don't want to start buying things.
Don't stress about it too much, we tended to use our nursery to change the baby and to store their clothes for the first several months, but my kids never touched the crib mattress until they were at least 3 months old.
Good luck, and when you do start, have fun!

  • Don't worry...I'm 37 weeks and 5 days and I just finished the nursery on Saturday.
  • Does an empty room count for something? We're hoping to paint the baby's room this weekend. And I still need to order the crib. I probably won't start getting things set up until next month, after Labor Day.

  • We didn't move into our house until I was 34 weeks, and it took me several more weeks just to get the furniture refinished and crib assembled. I'm 39 weeks now, and I just finished getting most of the clothing, diapers, etc., washed and put away last week. The baby will probably sleep in our room at first, so it's not like the nursery needed to be ready -- but like others, I wanted it to be ready for my own peace of mind. I'm due in a week and still need to hang the artwork and get a lampshade and diaper pail, but at least I know I can pick those up on the way home from work.

The only thing I feel frustrated about is the curtains. My mom volunteered to make them, which I really appreciate, and I know she'll do a lovely job. But now that the fabric has arrived, she's in no hurry (because, as she says, "Oh, it'll be sleeping in your room until it's two years old"). So I just have a bolt of curtain material sitting in my nursery. She doesn't share my need to have things ready to go ahead of time, so she thinks I'm being silly to want the room all ready to go before the baby still gets here, while our lives are still calm and predictable. I knew when I accepted her offer that this would probably happen, so I'm not going to stress out about it, but it is a little frustrating to not be able to get that one last detail handled.

  • My nursery is great! It consists of the bassinet beside my bed to make my life easier and the crib at the foot of my bed for when she is a little larger and sleeping more.

Eventually she will go into a room with her sister. Honestly though, that is all. Never set up any thign special for any of the kids. At this phase, it is for my pleasure, not theirs. I am sure though had this been my first or second, I would be gushing with you about a bedding set.

  • i dont have a dresser and i would soooo love one but we've been looking every for the right one and right price. but we do have this storage thing that hangs in her closet and i think that'll do. i would love to work her wall because it is so plain! so i got my sister to do some paintings and cool artworks (:
  • We JUST finished ours. I had LO #1 at 36 weeks and I'm likely to go a little early with this one as well. We were obviously cutting it close :) It's Okay!

  • I'm 37 weeks and the nursery isn't ready yet. I still need to do quite a bit in there. I am looking forward to finishing it up so I  can close the door and not think about it until the baby is here.

  • 32 weeks tomorrow... and haven't done anything but paint the room!
  • I'm 30 weeks 5 days pregnant, and baby's nursery isn't even close to being ready. My husband put the crib together, but the dresser still needs to be put together. I think the reason as to why the nursery isn't ready yet is because I haven't had my baby shower yet. I will have it when I am almost 34 weeks pregnant. I'm sure once I get a few gifts from friends and family, I will be able to complete the nursery. I'm not too worried. Even if baby arrives a little earlier than expect, all he will really need is the basics.

I got my dresser on amazon. Great quality and great price. I paid a little over 400 for crib and dresser.

  • This post makes me feel great! I am 32wks 5days and I'm moving long distance in 2 days. I just found out that the house we're moving into isn't going to be ready and we don't actually have a date for when it will be ready! And I have not bothered to buy/order any furniture b/c I wanted it shipped to the new place. I have some cute outfits that people keep buying for me (I love that people love to buy baby cloths - it's so awesome!). But I have not bought a single thing or prepared a single thing. I don't even know the room/size of the room for the nursery so it's impossible to pick out furniture. Since I'm living out of a suit case for who knows how long, I figure a hospital bag is pretty redundant at this point. I'm basically totally unprepared.
  • The guest bed has been taken apart and half of it is in the basement. We are still looking for a dresser to double as a change table....this has been challenging.  The crib won't move from DD's room until she turns two, then she gets the new toddler bed and the baby will move into his nursery.  At first he'll be in the bassinet beside the bed.

I've sewn and hung the curtains, but I still have a lot of fabric and sewing things to pack up out of the room and move to our room, where I will set up my sewing machine in the corner.  (so the sewing machine - it's a heavy built in the table one - is still in the nursery).

I feel really behind because I was mostly done everything for DD's room when I was 30 weeks.

  • I didn't start until 37 weeks this time, and I'm 38 weeks right now; almost done.  I'm still waiting for two things off etsy to come in, then it will be official for the LO :-)
  • 36th week: Not a bit ready. I have to eventually incorporate baby boy stuff into what is currently exclusively still my 2yo dd's room, until then, he'll be in a bassinette in our bedroom. I'm irritated because i want to do more than my body let's me, but i have family coming to visit to help carry out my needs. I at least have one drawer of boy clothes i've been collecting over the months, heh.
  • My LO's nursery is all done! It feels good to have everything prepared. Now I just have to pick up some final odds and ends and I will be ready for baby!
