How long did u work?

I'm 28(almost 29 weeks) with b/g twins. I'm measuring 37 weeks at this point. I've had a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy thus far, but curious when you stopped working. I'm a first grade teacher and just started back with the kiddos this week and can already tell a huge difference in standing most of the day (believe it or not more draining than chasing my 2 and 4 year old around all day) etc. Obviously I want to continue working as long as possible but not sure of the reality of it considering my position and as I measure closer to 40 weeks. Thoughts?

Re: How long did u work?

  • I just stopped working at 36 weeks due to swelling and high blood pressure.  I had a desk job though and was already getting uncomfortable but didn't want to dip into my Maternity Leave...with the high blood pressure my OB insisted it was time though.
I can't imagine working on my feet through 36 weeks, especially because all of my swelling is in my legs/feet.  Good luck!
FWIW- my OB said most of his MOMs stopped working at 7-8 months.....

  • I stopped working at 24 weeks as per my Dr's advice. I am an RN and work 12 hour day and night shifts. I only made it to 32 weeks, but I'd had an uncomplicated pregnancy up until 31 weeks. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

  • My water broke at work at 34w. I was WFH twice a week at that point due to mild pre e since I have a desk job.

  • I'm still pregnant but my plan looks like this:
I have a desk job and I can do my job from anywhere, so come mid-septermber (around 33 weeks) I'll be working from home 2 of my 3 days a week (they are each 10 hour days). I'll still be working all of my hours but I won't have to worry about getting up at 5am to commute in 3 days - just one. I plan to continue this way until 38 weeks or I deliver, which ever comes first.

I stopped at 29 weeks, I was just really tired and stressed. I probably could have stayed a few weeks longer but not much. I can't imagine working past 32 weeks for me that's when it got really bad.

  • I quit at 28w, but I was working in an office and in the field. The office part of my job was fine, it was being in the car in horrific heat and going up and down stairs to people's homes. I also had morning sickness throughout my pregnancy and I got stuck on the floor of the restroom at work a couple of times- not pretty.  I'd swell and have tons of BHs on my field days, so we decided it would be in my best interest to quit. However, I was planning on quitting once I got close, so I didn't really push myself to stay.

I was placed on bed rest for IUGR at 34w and delivered at 36w.

  • I worked until I was 33 weeks. I'm a teacher as well and found at thirty two weeks that I was starting to swell. I personally feel had I continued working I would not have made it to 37 weeks 4 days. Honestly, I think being off my feet helped.

  • I'm a NICU RN. I had a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy and the plan was always to work until I couldn't do it any more. At 33 weeks I shortened my shifts to 8 hours, and worked that for a week before deciding I couldn't do any more at 33 weeks 6 days. I delivered the boys at 34 weeks 1 day.

  • I've already told my boss that I am no longer working at 32 weeks. This also happens to be the day before Thanksgiving, so very convenient. I have a desk job, but it is long hours and can be very stressful. I had planned to work from home but frankly, forget it. I am just going to take that time to rest before the storm hits. Its going to be a financial hit though.

  • I worked until 30w1d and planned to work as long as I could.  I worked in a school, but am an SLP so I was able to sit a good portion of the day in between getting/taking kids from glass.  I went in to labor at 30w2d and that was the end of that.  I was measuring 40 weeks at the time.

  • I stopped at 33 weeks for my own comfort. Thankfully I work at a hospital that was open to this. I delivered at 36w6d and I am so thankful for that time to rest and just focus on growing my babies. Everyone is different. My job required a lot of walking and I just couldn't do it any more. Good luck to you!

I worked on my feet in a medical office up until 35 weeks.  I stopped working expecting to deliver within 2 weeks and spent the next 5 weeks twiddling my thumbs until I was induced at 39w4d and delivered at 40w0d.  I probably would have delivered sooner had I kept working because of the physical and mental stress I was under.

  • I went to part time at 27 weeks and then out completely at 32 weeks.  I am a nurse in a pediatric office and was put on desk duty at 22 weeks due to contractions/high BP.  I went into labor at 33 weeks and they were able to stop it thankfully.  I made it to 36 weeks 2 days and had big healthy boys.  I believe I would have had them sooner had I still been working.

  • I am a kindergarten teacher. I worked until 36 weeks 4 days.
  • I'm also a kindergarten teacher and I'm dreading going back in a month. I have a very demanding inclusion classroom and I am on my feet or in a teeny tiny chair all day.
  • I had a desk job, and worked up until I delivered at 34.5. I don't know that I would have made it much longer though, as I was having issues with pitting edema and terrible hip and leg pain.

  • My babies were born at 36w6d. I worked until the day before they were born. I worked in an office and everyone was very understanding about me needing to sit the majority of the day and brought files to me or picked files up from me when work was completed.

  • I worked at a desk job up until 32 weeks......doctor took me off due to irritable uterus, delivered my boys at 38 weeks!
  • Up until the day that I was put on bedrest for pre-e at 35w - I would have worked all the way up til induction had that not been the case. I technically went to work for two extra days after being told to go on bedrest, thinking that there was no way that a desk job could really put that much stress on me - then my systolic jumped 20 points, they told me to go to L&D for monitoring and BP meds, then after being admitted they told me I couldn't go home.

Sooooo keep a packed bag in the car and be ready for whatever comes up. If they tell you go on bedrest, go on bedrest! lol
