My four year old son has acetone breath. The first time I noticed it, was about nine months ago when he got sick from having allergies. He was checked for diabetes then (blood draw and urine) he was fine. He still has bad allergies, but I keep them pretty controlled. He's pretty energetic and sometimes he's a little dehydrated when I notice the acetone smell on his breath. I've smelt it a couple times in the last couple of weeks with today being one of those days. I'm very concerned about it being diabetes. I called his pediatrician and the soonest they can get him in, is not until the 15th. He's not losing weight, his hunger is the same, I don't think he's drinking excessively even with the hot weather. Today he's been sneezing a lot, I think his allergies are acting up. I'm a worrier...and I feel so stressed about this. Have any of you experienced this with your children??
Re: Stm's...please help!
Is this the only symptom he is having?
If he starts acting strange or odd I would definitely call back and ask for a sooner appointment and possibly take him to urgent care if needed.

Do you or your husband have any diabetes in your family?
If so your ds can get tested for free...probably even at the hospital. Call to check.
Excessive urination is another sign of diabetes. But again that's when the blood sugar is very high.
If you're thinking its low he would probably be clammy and shaky. Hypoglycemia. Ask the doctor to test for that next time?
