Preparing for baby

What are you stocking your fridge/ freezer/ pantry with you get ready for the arrival of your baby?  I keep feeling like it's my last chance to go to every store/ get the house ready and I should take advantage of each extra day, but am not sure what to get.

  • I have stocked up on everything! We love freezer meals like the bertolli's that you throw in a pan and heat. Plus I have put away a few lasagnas and such. Cereals I stocked up on plus even things like lunch meat and sliced cheese can be frozen, so can bread for that matter. Frozen veggies are a must too. I even bought a second of laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, toothpaste, shampoo and toilet paper stock up on toilet paper!  There is nothing worse then being so pooped from a newborn to having to run out and get toilet paper. And seriously, stock up on take out menus too! I like having a back up on just about everything that way when I run out, I have another to open and just put the new one on the list for the next scheduled trip. They fewer "must go for one thing" trips to the store I have to do the better!  Best of luck!

  • Nothing.  The grocery store is down the street.  I'm horrible at this nesting thing.
  • Nothing, store is around the corner and a mile down the road there are a bunch a take out places. I plan on not waiting to eat to much. That is how I was with DS. I had to force myself to eat so I would be able to feed him, I think this was related to my low milk supply. I'm going to try to eat more but I'm not going to buy stuff ahead of time.

  • While I was on bedrest, my parents came and cooked a bunch of meals to keep in our basement freezer. It's been an absolute Godsend! That and our MealBaby calendar - we've only cooked twice since our little ones were born 2 weeks ago (lunch and dinner!)

We stocked our freezer with a bunch of stuff from Trader Joe's that's easy to prepare. We belong to a CSA, so we'll get fruit and veggies weekly. In our pantry, I have a few easy meals and snacks like Kind granola bars and bags of trail mix that we can eat.
  • Not planning to really stock up on anything, we're very close to the store and can easily get whatever we need at any time.

  • I'm not really "stocking up" on anything different - I'm a couponer, so I have excess of things anyway....

I am going to take a weekend in late August/early September and do a big "ingredient" shopping trip and make a bunch of freezer meals.  I'm hoping to fill our deep freeze with meals that DH or I can just pop in the oven - lasagnas, soups, casseroles, etc.

  • I made a bunch of freezer meals (check Pinterest!) and casseroles. Pretty sure there's about 2 months worth of food in the freezer. I'm hoarding it until I go back to work- that's when all cooking goes down the tube.

  • We did our final pre-baby big Costco trip today. We're stocked up on TP, laundry soap, dish soap, etc. We also have lots of frozen lunches for me to eat when DH is back at work and I need a quick hot lunch. I bought an extra box of cold cereal and oatmeal to put away in the pantry and some Luna bars for midnight nursing snacks. DH buys tons of fresh fruit weekly plus milk and other basics.
