36w5d --Terrible back pain and cramping

I have had terrible lower back pain since yesterday evening and a lot of lower cramping. And very frequent Braxton hicks all day. It's probably normal I'm guessing but it just started bad like this yesterday afternoon. I've been feeling fine before then...

  • I think a call to your doctor is probably in order but here is my experience with this. I was having the same thing a few weeks ago, didn't think a whole lot of up but then decided to time the BH contractions. They were consistently 10 minutes apart so I called OB, they said to lay down and drink plenty, see if they stop. They didn't, and they had me come in to L&D.

It ended up just being the BH but the OB did a lot of tests and made sure there wasn't more to this. It could be absolutely nothing or it could be something easily treatable like a UTI or other infection. There's also a chance it could be much more serious.

When I have something like pain and cramping that happens all of a sudden and I haven't felt like that before, I call the OB and talk to them. There is no reason not to check with them and get reassurance.

  • Ok Thanks! My BH have been irregular. Some are 10 min apart and then more than that. I just feel all over yucky and terrible. I hope it's not like this for the rest of the time I'm pregnant!
  • Not to be a Debbie Downer but it's been like this for me pretty consistently since it happened a few weeks ago. At thirty six weeks you are probably having weekly check ups now which I would imagine will help put your mind at ease that it's normal. Again, I would call your OB just to see what they would have you do. Good luck!

Well, I'm not a doctor but if I had to make a guess I would say it's because you are in the last month of your pregnancy.

You have come on to a public online forum asking medical questions of people that
    a) aren't doctors
    b) can't examine you
    c) have limited information

Expect answers that you don't like. Period.

If you're that concerned about it, call your doctor and don't waste your (and everyone else's) time posting and waiting for responses.

Well, your question was kind of stupid. It's pretty normal to feel miserable during your last month of pregnancy. I'm a FTM and I know this. Any book or website will tell you this. I don't understand why you a) felt the need to ask us for our non-medically trained opinions and b) felt the need to call names when you're called out for asking a stupid question.

This isn't Jr. High. There ARE actually stupid questions here. If you don't like the answers you receive, go elsewhere.

@Jarethecat, You've got to be kidding me right? I don't think you understand what constitutes abuse here. Neither of the previous two comments are in any way abusive.  I would love to know which part of the Terms of use, you think I/we violated.  It's called blunt honesty. That's what you will find on TB.

Call your doctor, you might have a serious medical condition...called pregnancy...

Well maybe you should become a "smart ass" and call your Dr. instead of asking Internet strangers to tell you what's wrong with you.

    I mean, that's a plan.
