Allergic reaction?? Have you seen this before??

Does this look like some kind of allergic reaction??

We got DD a new rug for her play area from ikea last night. She played on it this morning and I noticed only 3 bumps and a little redness. I put her down for nap shortly after and when she woke up they were completely gone. She played again on it and came over to me with her BOTH knees looking like this!! The only thing I can think of is the rug so I took it out. I put some benadryl cream on both her knees. Then noticed her few eczema spots on her lower legs and arms were flared up. Could there be some sort of weird chemical on the rug that made her have a reaction?
Help!

  • That definitely looks like an allergic reaction to me. If the rug is the only new thing in her environment, then I would assume it was that until proven otherwise.

  • What could she be allergic to on the rug though?? Maybe a chemical or something??

  • Possibly one of the materials it is made out of or the chemicals on it. Do you know what it is made from? I have heard of people breaking out from wool, etc.

That would be my guess or a certain type of material. Sorry you're dealing with this!

  • Definitely hives. Especially if they are disappearing and reappearing in other areas. My kids have gotten hives lots! Don't worry too much unless there's breathing issues along with them. :

  • It could be dust from the factory. I wouldn't think she'd be allergic to synthetic material.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Yes, I actually just called the on call doctor because I know nothing about allergic reactions or what hives look like. And they started to disappear and then reappear in other places. Places that didn't even touch the rug like her back and belly. No breathing issues though. They are gone now. Gave her some benadryl and hydrocortizone cream on the hives. So strange... I wouldn't think she would be allergic to synthetic material either. I'm thinking dust or maybe the dye they used or something... who knows. Thanks for the feedback girls!

  • DD2 and I react the same way to carpet.  We don't have carpeting in either of our houses and nor do my parents.
