A/S Update

We  had our anatomy scan today and everything seemed fine, but the lab tech won't tell you anything, so if something was wrong  we would have no clue until it goes through the doctor.  Our girl is 12 ounces and all her measurements looked on par with 20 weeks (I was able to see the measurements pop up on the screen).  I was also able to see her type in posterior placenta, so pretty sure that is where the placenta is placed.

 I am hoping our doctor reviews the report and gets back to us ASAP. and we don't have to wait forever for the results.  It is normal that they don't tell you anything correct?  This has always been my experience with lab techs.

We waited after the A/S for the doctor to review the results then she came in and told us what she thought. We also asked to have a doctor there during (which was non-standard for them), just in case there were major issues.

I hope they call soon!

good luck with your results sounds positive so far! I think the rules differ from state to state and country to country, but I know in Ontario the tech can't tell you anything, I didn't even get to see the screen while she was working, so seems normal to me.

Thanks Boots, I figured it was protocol based on my past experiences. More waiting, agh!

I'm pretty sure they are not supposed to you anything. At my OB office they always schedule a consult at the end of the A/S, the OB comes in and the tech goes through the the stuff while the OB looks over her shoulder.

I'm in Wisconsin and in our ultrasound rooms they have a tv mounted on the wall so that we can watch during the whole ultrasound. Also the tech has always told us how things have been looking. I had no idea it was different depending on where you live.

Where my OB is, it is just an u/s tech that does the u/s. We have to wait for a call or the next OB appt to talk to the OB about the results of the scan. This is why I scheduled my u/s the day before my monthly OB appt so I would only have to wait 24 hours. With DS, I didn't know this and ended up waiting almost a month to talk to the OB about our scan.Glad you got to see LO on the screen though!

Glad everything seemed OK----I hate how they do those! I wish a Dr. came right in.

Where did you have it done?  That was the one thing I loved about my A/S, a MFM reviewed the scan with us before we left.  He was also able to reassure us about the areas of concern we have.  DH has a family history of cleft lip/palate.

We got to see the screen and the lab tech told us everything she was doing, pointed out all the major organs and parts, and told us her weight at the end. I had it at center for medical genetics. So far, anytime we see a lab tech they send it to the doc and then we hear from the doc.

And we did get lots of pics which was nice!

Glad everything seems fine, I hope you get a call soon! During our a/s the tech wouldn't tell us if things were ok. She said she coulldn't. The doctor came in after and talked to us though.

Our u/s tech will explain what we are looking at but she can't give any information beyond that.  Since our ultrasounds are in the same office, we usually schedule the scan first and then the appointment after so we can discuss the results with the doctor.  If for some reason they have to do a scan after the appointment, then I have to wait for a call from the doc with the results.  Hopefully they will call you soon with the results.  Happy to hear all looked good though!

My MIL (U/S tech) has told me that each practice is different in what they are allowed to discuss with a patient. I know some practices have the Dr there at the time of the scan and some don't.

Gotcha.  Ours was done at the Baylor MFM center in the TX Children's Pavilion for Women.

What's MFM mean?

Maternal Fetal Medicine. I'm not sure if my OB sends everyone there for NT and Anatomy scans, or just old AMA moms like me.

Ugh, that is rough to have to wait for results. I haven't made it to an a/s yet, but when I was in the process of having my m/c, the tech did an ultrasound and wouldn't tell me anything. Man, that was so agonizing. Fingers crossed your dr. calls tomorrow morning!
