Trouble with tummy sleeping

Now that LO rolls and has moved this new talent to her crib, I thought she would start sleeping on her tummy. But no. She rolls and hates it and instead of trying to rest her head on the mattress she just face plants, tries to eat the sheets and does push ups.

I've tried to leave her a couple times to work it out but she just gets more wound up. It now takes 20 to 30 for her to nap for her 40 min.

Anyone deal with this issue already? It's been a week and I'm not seeing a solution in sight.

My LO one is a belly sleeper who rolls to his back and refuses to roll back to his belly though he can do it so he then cries until I go in and flip him. It stinks and it is honestly just a phase they will grow out of!

Not to be a "sleep train" advocate... And not that I know if you have or not, I am just saying this from my own experience.... But I am glad we had done our sleep training before he rolled. He was a delayed roller to begin with so we sort of lucked out. We just adapted his rolls in with his timed checks. If we went back in at a check point and he had rolled, we would flip him back over. But after a while he learned it was okay to sleep on his tummy. Now I find him on his tummy 95% of the time. We struggled more with limbs through the slats, but it took him a week to figure it out. Thankfully we don't have a door knob on his door, so it acts like a peek hole so we can check on him without him knowing it. Honestly, I think once the novelty of rolling over wears off, bedtime should get easier for you.

    This happens to
DS and I have to think its just a phase . A few times lately he works it out and stays on his belly but he never flips back over to his back so if he wants to be there he just yells at me til I flip him. This is really awesome at 3am

I'm going to sound like a total idiot here....but....what? Tummy sleeping? DS is just starting to roll, but has yet to do it in his crib. Last night after I nursed him in our bed I waited a bit to make sure he was asleep before transferring him to our crib and he rolled into his tummy and just kind of half-turned his cheek to the side so he wasn't fully face-planted. I freaked, flipped him onto his back and had him sleep in our bed all night!! Am I "allowed" to put him down on his tummy? Assuming he likes it?? I was still under the impression that "back is best".

Back is best, but if they can roll they can stay on their tummy!

absolutely all this! As long as you are the one to put them on their back, it's perfectly okay for them to sleep on their tummy as long as they rolled themselves over. I don't blame you for the worry. The first two nights DS slept on his tummy, I turned on the monitor. Keep in mind my bedroom door is 10 feet away from ours. I wanted to hear him the second he woke up... Which he STTN anyways.

I'm totally dealing with a tummy sleeper right now too.  Starting a few days ago, DS kept rolling himself over and trying to sleep on his tummy.  I freaked out and kept rolling him back (and he would promptly roll back over).  The issue is, he has only rolled from tummy to back a handful of times, probably on accident.  When he sleeps on his tummy, half his face is on the mattress, and I'm completely stressing out.  Right now, he's napping on his tummy and I'm completely glued to the monitor, making sure I can see him breathing.  He definitely rolled himself on his tummy, but is it really okay to leave him like that?  I'm scared to death of SIDS...   :(

Everything I've heard and read says you can leave them on their tummy if they roll. This is why I thought LO would start tummy sleeping...but no. Thank goodness for video monitors! Lol

He moved himself to that position so he is capable of moving out of it! By this point he has good enough neck control to turn his head both ways right? And does he sleep with a binky at all because that would prevent his face from ever truly being in the mattress! But yes if he flips he should be okay, if you feel more comfortable flip him back but you may be doing that all night long! Lol

We dealt with this a couple weeks back. DS would roll onto his belly, then either scoot himself into a position where he couldn't roll back, or just keep face planting into the mattress. His fussing would escalate and we would have to go in several times to reposition him. One really bad night he tried to roll the wrong way and smacked his head into the crib. That night he ended up in our bed.

Like PPs have said, it is a phase and they eventually learn to negotiate the space. DS now rolls on his belly, falls asleep that way, and can scoot and move himself around to get himself back over if he's out of room. In fact, it's sort of worked out to our advantage, because I know when he's "up for good" when he rolls himself back onto his back. If he stays on his belly but just keeps fussing and scooting, I know he is trying to get himself back to sleep and not to go in there.
