Heart shaped uterus/bicornuate

Hi FTM here, sorry if someone has posted about this but my phone ap wasn't working for a while. At my appointment at 6w1d they said I had a heart shaped uterus. So far baby has a strong heartbeat (yay!) but the doctor said the dip wasn't severe but they would be "keeping an eye on it". Has anyone else dealt with this before? Did you have complications?

I actually have a 'unicornuate' uterus. Which means only half of my uterus developed. Bicornuate means you have both halves but they may not have fused together perfectly. I'm assuming that the heart shape is a result. The risks for me (and possibly somewhat for you) are preterm delivery. Essentially I have a half sized uterus therefore it thinks it's full around 20 weeks (in theory). However! This is my 4th pregnancy and my other three pregnancies resulted in perfect healthy babies that all came between 41-42 weeks lol. My only complication was that my babies were all posterior due to the abnormal shape (mines shaped like a banana lol) but I delivered all 3 without the need for a c-section.
Be careful what you read online. It all sounds terrible and it will frighten you. I'm glad to have not been diagnosed until after I had my first 2 babies.

    Good luck!

I have a heart shaped uterus and had absolutely no issues with my first pregnancy. If I remember right, the only things they watched for was if the egg implanted to far up in one side of the uterus they would have watched for it being wedged into one side and  whether the baby was breach towards the end it would have been harder to try and turn. Even though my DS wasn't breach, I ended up having a CS due to other factors not related to the shape of my uterus. I wouldn't be to worried about it, let the doctors do that for you :) Good luck!

Thank you so much for the replies! This really helps me. I tried not to google about it but because my OB didn't expand on it at all I was curious. There are scary things out there and I'm tryinf to stay as positive as possible.

A woman's body is a marvelous machine. If there is a problem, our body works to find its own solution. It's truly amazing. Trust that your body will do what it needs to do to keep your baby safe and healthy. Both the Internet and my specialist told me i'd never carry a baby to term. All 3 of my babies were born at least 10 days past their due dates. And they weighed 8lb4oz; 7lb13oz; 7lb6oz. So they were by no means small babies (not giant either but hey I only have half a uterus so for me that's a lot haha).

You may get monitored a little more than most but that's a good thing especially for your peace of mind.
