Drugstore Awkwardness - mini rant

This is the first time anything like this has happened to me........ I refilled my prescription for prenatal vitamins at my local, Mom-and-Pop drugstore and went in to pick them up today. The woman at the counter is fairly new, as I've only seen her a handful of times there. When she came back with my bag, she asked if I was picking up the meds (I was picking up others too) for myself today. Thinking nothing of it, I said yes. She then turned to me with the brightest smile on her face and said, "Well, congratulations!" I took a deep breath, realizing what she meant, and said, "No, not yet." She looked at me confused. Silly me, I thought our discussion was over! She then said in a low voice, "But those are prenatal vitamins in there." I told her in a curt, controlled voice, "Yes, but not yet." She smiled and said, "Well then this is an early congratulations." And that's supposed to make me feel better? Awkward! So when someone is picking up a scrip for Valtrex, do you say, "Ooo, sorry you have herpes," when you hand them their medication? I don't know why I even bothered to engage in that conversation. No one should have to explain themselves. Ugh!

Not cool! People are too much! Similar situation happened to me once buying HPT. The guy just would not let it go. I should've said, "listen, we've been trying for 4 years, so I'm sure this silk be negative just like all the hundreds before have been, but I really want to drink this weekend so I'm just clearing my conscience before I go because I still believe in miracles"! People just don't know when to stop!

That is really uninformed! My doctor had me taking prenatal vitamins ever since I turned 25 because they are perfectly formulated to include everything a woman my age needs. Soooooo, seriously?!?

What people can be so dumb sometimes. I'm sure she "meant" well but still!!! I get all my injects and hormonal suppositories from mail order but use the target pharmacy for my vitamins and bcp. I'm sure they were super confused by my oxymoron pick up. I'm in the medical field and the first thing they teach us is to never assume a pregnancy is a "good" thing so we always leave it open ended until the patient gives us more info. I'm sorry that happened to you.

I get my vitamins from The Vitamin Store, and they are always without a doubt on the tip top shelf and only accessible by a ladder. The last time I bought them, the young guy looks at me, and goes "are you pregnant?" I almost throttled him. I shot back "nope, and it's wrong to assume that anyone buying these is actually pregnant", and he looked me over, and said, "we'll, I didn't think you looked pregnant, so congratulate whoever these are for". I almost called the company to complain, but then I got a hold of myself and realized that people say horribly stupid things, and perhaps one day I'll think it's funny. It's still not funny.

What she said is really unprofessional.  She shouldn't comment about any prescriptions you are having filled.

What a moron. I had a cashier at a grocery store comment on the PNV once too. The look I gave him cut off all further conversation.

Grrrr! I had the most awkward situation buying a HPT too. The obnoxious looking immature guy at the counter rang it up, and I handed over my money. Now here I am, wedding ring on hand, husband standing next to me, quite obviously (in my opinion) appearing over 30, and this cashier decided to tell us a joke about "going too fast and having accidents in cars causes kids". So annoying! DH will never go back into that Rite-Aid.

Some people just dont think. It doesnt make it right at all. Sorry you had to go through that.

I had an appt yesterday to see if I responded to the meds, my best friend texted me "call me tonight after you get preggers! haha!" Um... its not funny. Im not "preggers." Im going through infertility treatments. Think people think.
