Hanging things on the wall behind the crib?

Well I just spent 20 mins sitting on the floor of my nursery crying my eyes out, when my H pointed out that if I hang my mirrors and pic frames on the wall behind the crib like I had planned, then I will have to hang them super high so baby can't reach them when she can stand up. Why did I not think of this before?! I know I'm just being emotional and crazy but I've had this picture in my head for months now, and I feel like they just won't look right anywhere else. I told my H I would just hang them high behind the crib then and his response was 'that's not even an option. That will look horrible.' Ugh! Is anyone else planning to hang something there, and are you just planning to hang it high?

  • IMO, I would just hang them higher as she gets older. I would have never thought of that either, BTW.

  • once your baby can stand, the matress should be lowered.... are you planning on hanging the items that close to the crib to where it would even matter?

I'm hanging a wooden monogrammed piece over the crib. I doubt it will an issue. I agree with the ladies above. LO probably will not be able to reach it. If you are still worried about it, you could always find a cute decal.

BTW I love the frames and hope they will work out!
  • I think we will hang above the crib but move them as baby is able to reach higher.
  • I really wanted to hang her name above her bed but dh is strongly against it. We do live in CA and we do have the occasional earthquake but so far nothing that has caused anything to move or fall. Plus they will be nailed into the wall and hung by ribbon. I was not too happy when he told me no

  • The only thing I put over the crib is one of those vinyl decals with the baby's name on it. I'm not so worried about him pulling it down bc that's a long way off. I'm more worried about it falling. You never know.  I'd steer clear if I were you.
  • You should be fine to hanging them above the crib. Like pp said the mattress will be lowered.

We live in CA and hang these above beds. We use a nail and then a 3m product to secure it even more. It is like Velcro. I also never have to straighten the pictures.

I put the names above the crib. The letters are super light and I really don't think they'll fall. I'd probably be nervous to hang something heavy there.

  • I hung 4 framed pictures above the crib and DH said the same thing.  I then just pulled the crib out from the wall a bit (it is on casters) and said problem solved.

I CAN'T GET OUT OF THE GRAY SECTION!  But anyway, this is what we did as well!

  • I plan on hanging her name.  The letters weigh next to nothing and are fairly flat and will hang by ribbon.  I may do the velcro trick for added stick too.  Other than that, nothing is going over the crib.  Plus, you can always move things as baby grows.

  • I do plan on hanging something above the crib, but will make sure to use anchors and everything so it's nice and secure. Also plan on anchoring her bookshelf to the wall... I had a (decorative) fishing net on her wall, but realized it was a little too close to the changing table, so I moved that...

  • I did decorative fish net above her crib with starfish and her name. As long as its all anchored well, and beyond babys reach it will be fine. I might pull her crib out a tiny bit as well, that's a good idea

  • I wouldn't put anything heavy behind the crib. We may do some small canvas paintings or a decorative decal. Babies grow so fast and I'd be worried about them reaching it before I realized he could. For example, we used to figure out when DD was newly able to reach a counter or table because we would catch her with something we didn't think she could reach. I just wouldn't risk it, especially something like a mirror.

  • Nothing is above the crib, I have a thing about that and things falling. I think you need a break and to put your mind somewhere else right now if that is making you cry your eyes out.
