2nd Trimester

Fluttering

I'm 14.5 weeks pregnant when does fluttering start? What does it feel like?

Re: Fluttering

  • Its individual. Some feel it around 16 weeks (quickening) and it can feel like gas bubbles/butterflies. Some don't feel it until closer to 20 weeks. With DD it felt like pop corn popping and DS it felt like little butterfly wings brushing around in my abdomen.

  • I barely feel mine I'm 16 weeks and its my fourth, but when I do feel the flutters it feels like popcorn popping. However like said before it varies from person to person. :)

  • The flutters felt like someone lightly tickling me; I thought it was just me stretching or itching.  When they get to the point of the baby pushing and kicking and rolling over, it's pretty unmistakable.

  • It feels like a tickle for me, I just started feeling baby moving in the past couple of days. I am only 13w4d but this is baby #3 pregnancy #6.

  • With my first, and this one, I felt it at 16 weeks.  To me, it feels like exactly what everyone else said, a bubbly/butterfly feeling. But I know its not gas because it is in a different place and it continues for a little bit, stops, and then starts again.

  • I think I was 16wks with my first, and was 17wks this time around. I wasn't sure what I felt the first time around until one night when it was obvious the 'popping' feeling had a pattern to it and wasn't the same as gas bubbles. This time I knew what to look for and I didn't feel it till I was closer to 18wks, but my doc said due to where my placenta was positioned at the time it probably kept me from feeling her sooner. I am 22wks now and DH can feel her if he puts his hand on my stomach and I can also see her kick if I am lying down. She is quite the karate star lol

I think around 14-15 weeks I started to feel my LO. It felt like bubbles popping.
Now at 18wks, they feel more likr kicking. DH and I can both feel it from the outside which is pretty cool.
  • I have an anterior placenta and I did not feel a thing until 21 weeks. The feeling of popcorn popping is a great analogy. I could also equate it to if you had a turtle in a plastic bag full of water and it brushing up against the sides.

I recently read like a goldfish in a bag. With my anterior placenta I didn't fell anything until 22 weeks. Also didnt know about ap until 20.

  • this is my first pregnancy and im 18 weeks and feel little bubbles
  • I'm 19 weeks and started feeling "something" about 10 days ago.  I thought it was gas bubbles...but it's been happening more over and over so I finally figured out it's the baby!  Almost feels like a muscle twitching to me.  Sometimes I'll get a little twitch or spasm in my knee and it kinda feels like that.
  • I'm currently 18 weeks and I would say I started to really notice it about week 15. I really like the goldfish in a bag analogy! I seem to feel LO more at night when im trying to go to bed lol

  • I'm just about 21 weeks and just felt her for the first time last week! To me, it felt like "roller coaster butterflies" but not as intense. And it almost felt like a poke. I feel her every one in a while, she's still so little.
  • I felt the baby since 15 weeks. Little popcorn popping at first. I'm 20 weeks now and feeling kicks. My 1st baby
  • It honestly depends on the person and pregnancy. With DD I felt flutters at 13 weeks this pregnancy I felt them at around 14 weeks. I felt the first kicks at around 16 weeks and today was the first day being able to see a kick looking at my belly and I'm 19 weeks. It's hard to explain what flutters feel like but it's kind of like a popping sensation I guess you could say. When you feel "real" flutters you'll know what they are. Some people confuse them with gas but I personally think they feel totally different.
