Was told more bad news today

So today I found out I am GBS positive. Was not thrilled with this and have some worry as my cousin had GBS meningitis when he was . I was also told I am chronic hypertensive so I am getting weekly nst scans. Overall not a good visit

Re: Was told more bad news today

  • I'm sorry. :( I got the GBS positive news today too. Kinda blows but I'm trying to take it n stride. Most babies are born fine, and most likely ours will be too.

  • sorry about the news but I was GBS positive with DS and he is a perfectly healthy 2 year old and I am GBS positive again with this LO.

  • FWIW, there's apparently a high false-positive rate for this test--at least, that's what I was told by my doula.  I'm still waiting on my results, but if they come back positive, she advised asking for a retest and having sex the night before.  For some reason, they think it cancels out the false positive possibility (but won't mask a true positive).

I realize how this sounds...but I swear I'm not making it up.

Sorry you got so much yucky news. Hang in there.
  • Try not to panic... Lots of healthy babies are born to GBS pos moms! My boss' wife has 7 kids and was pos :)
    Married DH <3 : 7/7/12; 3 fur babies (2 dogs and 1 cat)
DS born 9/3/13; DD born 7/22/15; LO due 5/28/18
FS (age 5) and FD (age 2) to become AS/AD very soon!

  • I'm sorry. FWIW, my OB said that it really isn't much of a big deal, they just give you some antibiotics during delivery. She also said the risks of infection is pretty low.

  • So sorry about the crummy visit. :( I just got the GBS positive news today, too; I've had a totally normal/healthy pregnancy up until this point and had just assumed the test would be negative, so it was a bit of a shock! My OB made it sound like NBD though, so hopefully it won't be for any of us GBS+ ladies!

  • I know it's another stressor to have antibiotics in labor and worry about it, but babies born to gbs positive moms who don't have antibiotics have like a 2% chance of getting an infection and 30% of women are gbs pos. I would too worry too much! Good luck

  • Sorry you had a rough day. It shouldn't be too big of a deal. Hang tight a bit longer!
  • GBS+ shouldn't be a big deal and from what I read and what all the OB's at my practice say it isn't. They just administer antibiotics while you are in labor. Usually 4 hours prior to delivery or every 4 hours up until delivery. I tested positive early on due to a UTI. It is a very common strep.
