Refusing Sippy Cup

Okay, so we have been working with L for months on using a sippy cup, but she absolutely refuses.  She will cry and cry and cry until we give her a bottle.  I am not sure what to do.  We are having the same issue with most solids.  She will eat some table food, but when it comes down to it, she much prefers purees.  Do I just let her do what she likes, i.e. bottle and purees, or do I try to force the issue and make her use a sippy cup and cut out the purees?

FTM here, so any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

What have you tried putting in the sippy cup? Formula or water? I posted on my IG that what helped DD to finally 'get it' and want to drink out of her sippy was drinkable yogurt (we use yobaby), but I'm sure you can make your own sippy-friendly smoothie. Now she drinks that and water without issue. Formula is still a struggle though.

  • I posted about the sippy cup the other day, we are having the same problem with DS. DD had the issue too, but more like your LO with no table food either. With DD I just ended up stopping the bottles and purées cold turkey I think. When I did it, I increased her dairy intake during meals to compensate for the milk she wasn't drinking until we got on track. It was shortly after her first birthday. Hopefully these babies will come around.

We have tried both formula and water.  I had hoped that when she was hungry and we put formula in there, that she would go after it, but no such luck!  I hadn't thought of trying a yogurt/ smoothie for her to drink.  I thought about trying juice, but I really don't want to give her juice yet.

just keep trying.  that's what i am doing.  she will pick up the sippy now at every meal.  i usually have to pick it up off the floor a couple times, but she is at least showing interest.

find delaine's post.  there were tons of suggestions including using shot glasses.  i found a couple plastic ones and she will pick those up too.  floor mat highly suggested.

Just keep offering it every meal, same with solids. The TT have been the best for us so far. I started by putting it in his mouth and pushing down on the spout area so the formula would come out. Now he understands he has to bite it to get a drink. He isn't great at it yet so I also feed him with a cup a lot. He loves drinking from a cup. We might end up using the sippies that don't have the spill proof spout. It will at least buy me a little time before he dumps the entire cup.
