October 2013 Moms

Here we go

3 days in to my visit and the "advice" begins. FIL just tried to give me birthing advice. I said he has no say. I will only listen to MIL and SIL on this topic. Between the 2 of them they have 10 kids. He used the whole "I fathered 6 kids" thing. I said.....

  • Ahh yes, advise from a male. I like their stay at home mom advise too when they only "stay home" 2 days a week. Although I know a stay at home dad and I do value his opinion, but he also is the one who is at home with the kids, so he would know/understand.

  • That gif is perfection. I am glad my dad isn't around, and I don't have to see my inlaws that often. I will say that I felt bad for my grandaddy when I had DD1. He was so nervous, and he just kept running out to get coffee and left out of the room when my contractions started getting really bad lol.

Now I want to know what sort of birthing advice he was trying to give you. I can't even imagine that. There was this idiot in my birthing class who was there with his wife who was having their first baby. He acted the whole time that he knew EVERYTHING about birth and would try and give tips to the women there. He would interrupt the teacher all the time too and was just such a loud mouth idiot.

Ha! I feel ya! My FIL convinced DH I would be cheating myself out of the birth experience if I ended up getting an epidural. I made it crystal clear that no uterus equals no opinion.
Wow.  I think I'd have quipped, "and next time you need surgery, we'll tell them not to use anesthetic so you don't get cheated out of the surgical experience."
I know, right?! I'm not totally set on having one but I fully intend on having the option. MH was on board with him too and tried to tell me i wouldn't need one but luckily my brother in law who's been through two births stepped in and said "if you were told your nut sack might rip or need cut wouldn't you want some pain relief".... He shut up about it after that haha!

Lmao! I'm totally using the nutsack comparison the next time this comes up! Also loving the no uterus no opinion gif.
Can't figure out a siggy for my life, but just in case: DD 6/11/04 DS 8/13/08 DD 10/4/13
  • Oh, yeah, we had this Sicilian dude who worked for us (briefly, he was terrible!). He kept trying to give me advice and tell me things like it had been proven that one glass of wine a night was very, very, VERY healthy for both the mother and baby. He drove me crazy and wouldn't listen when I said I didn't want his advice. Also, it kills me when people act like I've never gone through this before. Umm, this ain't my first rodeo, son!

  • I actually had a waitress try to encourage me to get an alcoholic drink because "My mom drank the whole time she was pregnant with me and I turned out just fine!"

I know it would increase the bill, and thus your tip, if I boozed it up, but here's a tip lady: Don't give unsolicited parenting advice!

My FIL just had a hip replaced, and I guess they don't put them fully under now.  He could hear them sawing his bone and could feel them manipulating his leg and pulling the bone out.  *VOMIT* I'm all for natural birth, but that freaked me RIGHT OUT.

Oh, and sorry for the tangent haha
