Working Moms

any other working moms in the military

I'm pregnant and in the military and I'm having a lot of fears of going back to work after. 2 of my biggest are getting into the cdc and passing my prt after a pregnancy of not being able to work out for medical reasons and then having a c section. I love being in the military but in scared about so many things because we are duel. Like who will i put on my family care plan. Anyone else with experience they can share ( i posted this here hoping there would be more ad moms than the military board)

Re: any other working moms in the military

  • Hi there! I am active duty Navy.  I work in the medical field and I absolutely love my job.  DH is an active duty military pilot.  Being dual-military is hard, but we make it work.

I had no complications with my pregnancy and lost most of the 34 lbs I gained within the first month.  I was back to my pre-baby weight within months, but it took lots of working out to feel back in shape again. I probably felt back to normal and in good shape within 6 months.  I also scored an Excellent on my first PRT, six months after giving birth.

My DD also goes to the CDC and we love it.  She learns so much there and her teachers are amazing.  DH is currently on a 9 month deployment.  I just use sitters, friends and the military community to help when I need to be there for work.

DD is over 2 years old and the longest I've had to leave her is 3 weeks. I'm about to head to Asia for work for the month of August and my parents will come down and stay with DD.  It's going to be  harder on me than it is on her.  She'll have a blast with my parents.

It is doable, but you just have to work really hard to get back into shape, find good childcare and really take advantage of the support system we have.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
