Pregnant after IF

SCH support needed please

I am scared to death right now. I can't sleep at night. I read online that it's more dangerous if a sch is found in early first trimester than later around 8-12 weeks. I will be 7 weeks tomorrow. The Re didn't give much reassurance basically said we have to wait and see. Is there anything special you do to calm your nerves and manage your sch? My next u/s isn't until Monday.

Re: SCH support needed please

  • I am so sorry you are dealing with this.  I had a SCH that was found at 6w5d.  I had spotting until 15w.  I had a "big" bleed every week until about 12 weeks.  I am now 35 weeks with a baby girl.

Trust me, I know how scary this can be.  This is the second time I have dealt with an SCH.  The first time was not a favorable outcome.  I am a rare case though.  My body doesn't develop a very healthy placenta.  My SCH originated from the placental edge.

As far as keeping calm, I really held on the mantra from PGAL - "Today I am pregnant and I love my baby."  I was on strict and/or modified bedrest until 21 weeks.  I still have a 10lb weight lifting restriction.  Drink lots of fluids and stay off your feet as much as possible.  Doctors are on the fence as to whether or not bedrest is beneficial for dealing with SCH, but since I was in the position to do it, my DH and I felt more comfortable doing every thing we possibly could.

    Good luck!!

Thank you for the help. I also had a loss last pregnancy which started with a sch but the baby wasn't growing properly. My PGAL brain doesn't help my anxiety. I hope my story will be a good story like yours.

  • sorry you are feeling so scared... i feel the same way.  and it's funny- i actually read that sch's are worse when it's late first trimester instead of early, which is why i've been freaking out.  there's so much conflicting info and its hard to know what's accurate.  even if one study has a negative outcome, another one has a positive.  like pp said, today i am pregnant.  i'm trying to do that and just enjoy that i've gotten further than every before and that bleeding doesn't always mean bad.  for some it's just what is normal for their pregnancy.  hang in there and keep us posted.
    Me (37) DH (39); PCOS changed to Unexplained, changed to DOR in 2012 (finally a correct diagnosis!);
Started TTC 2009 with RE after 6 months.

    IUI + Femara x1,

IVF #2 (antagonist) May 2013, First BFP of my life.
Identical twin miracle BOYS (!!) headed our way- due date is technically 2/4/14 but c section is scheduled for 1/7!

  • **Raises Hand** I have an SCH as well.  At 6w3d I started gushing bright red blood, and I mean GUSHING! I had my first ultrasound at 6w4d and we saw one beautiful bean and heard the heartbeat at 119.  My RE noticed the SCH right away and said "that's where the bleeding is coming from". My SCH is on the opposite side of the uterus from the baby, not interfering with the Placenta attachment (which he indicated was good).

I was told to say on modified bed rest until the next ultrasound (which is today.. 7w5d). I'm a NERVOUS WRECK!. My RE had me stop the baby aspirin immediately, since then I have been bleeding everyday.  Mostly brown gooey looking stuff :(. I've had some cramping every now and then, which makes me panic.

I spoke to my accupuncturist about the SCH and he was very calming. He indicated over 50% of his IVF patients develop sometype of SCH and continue to have successful pregnancies.  Now, he might just be blowing smoke to calm my nerves.. but i'm going with it, and hoping for a good outcome today.

I'm wishing you the best! This is super scary.

  • I so know how you are feeling. I bled at 6w3d due to an SCH, and was told the same thing- "wait and see". Not very reassuring but after consulting with this board and doing some research, I felt reassured that the outcome would likely be ok.
I was of course very anxious about it but by the time I had my NT scan at 12 weeks it was gone (and I have a healthy one week old now!).
I hope yours resolves itself quickly. Don't lose hope and hang in there!

  • Coming back to give you encouraging news, I still have the SCH but at 7w5d the baby looks great with a healthy heartbeat of 169! Stay positive, rest up! I've been taking the modified bed rest pretty seriously, and drinking lots of water. I have been bleeding (brown yucky stuff) everyday for the past 9 days and my RE said that was normal and i'll probably continue to bleed for the next 2-3 weeks or until the SCH is resolved.  Only if I see more bright red gushing should I call the office...

    Best wishes to you!

  • I had one found at 10 weeks and my OB said that the size and location were the biggest factors. Mine was bigger than the baby and sack of water. I was put on modified bedrest, but I have a toddler so that was difficult. It shrank by half in 2 weeks and was gone by the A/S scan. I had one evening of gushing blood and then on and off of brown spotting.

I still worry everyday about the baby. If I do too much and stress about waking up on my back and hurting the baby. I hope these stories give you hope and that your baby will hang in there! Everyday you go the better the chances!! GL!
