Taking care of babies is hard work!

I'm babysitting for my friend's son while they move.  She is a SAHM and he doesn't really like to be left with other people.  And he's not a great sleeper.  So, I managed to get a 1 hour nap this morning and he's asleep right now.  She said that his usual afternoon nap is only about 30 minutes and he's been asleep for almost an hour...so I'm working on borrowed time.

Its hard to know what he wants and when he wants it.  I assume that I'll know my baby much better than I know someone else's baby and so I'll know what to do with those little whines or cries.

This is hard work!  And I have him tomorrow too!

  • The joys of motherhood! I guess we better enjoy our sleep while we can!

  • What great practice though.  I am terrified of how I am going to take care of my baby-- like you said I think intuition plays a role and you instinctivly get to know how to do some of it but I have never even changed a diaper!  Ugh...what have I gotten myself into ; )

  • Yes with time you will know your baby's moods, needs etc than you will someone elses child.

As a child of a power napper I totally feel your friends pain, it is almost impossible to get anything done when I am at home with Fenton.

I dont want to not comment here, cause I thought the same thing. Nor do I want to scare you... but it takes time to learn even your own babies cries. I would say those 1st 6 weeks, which are all about survival, you and your baby are getting to know each other, and sometimes you guess wrong! But it doesn't matter, you eventually figure it out. You will be a great mom! But don't expect to figure it all out right away!
