Babies: 0 - 3 Months

dd hasn't had pro pics taken

is this bad?  So many people look at me like there is something wrong with me or I'm neglecting my daughter because we haven't done this.

My thing is, they are SO expensive and I take so many pictures of her anyhow.  I have plenty that are really nice that why would I need to pay someone else to do it?

What do you think?

Re: dd hasn't had pro pics taken

  • We've never had pics done, either. I take a ton myself as it is. He's just now getting to the age where I think he'd tolerate pro pics (sitting up more, smiling at things) so I might be willing to spend the money on them. We might just wait until a year, too. No biggie to me. :)

  • I don't know if it is bad or not.  DS hasn't had them taken either. There are more important things to worry about, like paying the bills.

  • I didn't have them done until DD was 3 months old. Anytime before that would have probably been wasted due to her complete lack of schedule and crying constantly.

  • Why the heck would there be anything wrong with that. I got Max's taken when he was a month old but only because I am friends with the photographer and got a discount. He probably won't have them done again for a long time. I take tons of pictures of him.

  • I just don't see the point of pro pics I have a digital camera. I will take some when she's about 9 months that's what I did with my 1st child. Besides they keep changing the way they look so I would prefer to just take pics with my camera for a while.
  • I totally understand what you are saying.  We had Our365 (the people who take newborn pics in the hospital) come to our house for a "photo shoot" at 7 weeks.  They told us it was completely free and we would receive a free 8x10.  Wouldn't you know they tried to guilt me into buying all of the pics for a cheap $600!!!!  The guy kept telling me they wouldn't hold on to the pics and if I didn't order that day they would be gone forever.  I told him they should actually shred the pics in front of the parents to make them feel worse.  I stuck to my guns and took my free 8x10 and sent him on his way.  It was hard but with all of the great online photo creations you can make these days it just didn't make sense.  So don't feel bad.  She'll have plenty of pics to look back at.

  • I agree.  I haven't had professional pictures taken yet because of the price.  I wanted to make sure that I got my money's worth.  I'm waiting until DS is about 6 months old.

  • We haven't either and for the same reason- they are so expensive.  We are planning in it eventually when ds is a little older and he can actually be able to smile a bit more to strangers and sit up on his own.  I don't think it is strange at all!
  • No pro pics here, either. I just take my own :)
  • We waited till he was 3 months and smiling more, it was C-mas time anyway and I wanted family shots so I just lumped the 3m pics in with those.

I do plan to get them done again at 6 and 12 months. The place I take him does such a great job I could never capture that with my camera at home.

  • I took Brady for the first time at 6 months.  Everyone thought I was nuts for not doing it sooner too

  • No pro pics for us either and DD is 6 months old. I do have a friend that does pro pics, I just haven't asked him to do any yet.
  • I haven't either and the thing that's stopping me is the price to buy the rights. I completely understand why photographers charge so much, but with the economy the way it is, I'm not willing to spend $200+ for the digital prints. And having them is a must because I want to post them on my blog for family to see. I read some tips on taking "pro" pics at home and have found that very useful!.

I have a friend who's a photographer and she took some pics for me that I'll buy from her and can frame. That will be good enough for now.

  • I take her to Sears once a month.  It is so cheap!  I bought some saver card for $15 so now when I go during the week I spend $20 and get 5x7s for our parents and an 8x10 for us.  The photographers do a great job.  As far as REAL professional photos, like photographer at the beach type stuff, we are waiting until she is a little older - no need to spend crazy money on that right now.
  • Mine either, it kills me
