XP: Breathing/Sleep monitors and False Alarms?

We have the Babysense Breathing monitors and both Friday night and last night the alarm went off.  When we went running in there we found our DD lying in her crib, just fine. The alarm doesn't wake either of them up, and she was breathing and opened her eyes when we put our hand on her.  My DH says he saw her breathing as soon as he ran in there (somehow he managed to beat me to the crib - a credit to him as he can sleep through anything!).  We have both sensors under the mattress and she was in the middle of the crib, we replaced the batteries after Friday's scare.  Has anyone ever had false alarms like this with them?  I read putting a board between the springs and the sensors can help if they are breathing too shallow (which I read they do when they get a bit older and sleep more soundly)?  I'm just wondering if anyone else has had experience with this.  Thanks!

Re: XP: Breathing/Sleep monitors and False Alarms?

  • If it happened two nights in a row I would wonder if she maybe has a slight apnea issue?  Nothing major, but enough that she maybe didn't take a breath and the monitor went off.  I know our apnea monitor is set for 20 seconds.  Obviously the mattress sensors are different, so I'm not sure, but that's my guess.  She may be sleeping more soundly now, and periodic breathing is normal for babies.  If it happens again, maybe ask to talk to your pedi about it, and keep a journal of the times etc that the alarm goes off.
