any DCs not like tummy sleeping?

We are trying to get DS to sleep on his tummy (rec'd by Dr to help with STTN and now that he's 4+ months old and rolling over), but he has gotten mad the few times I've tried to put him down that way.  I think he thinks it's tummy time when he's tired.  Any DCs not like tummy sleeping?

  • I don't know if this would work, but could you try putting him to sleep on his back and then go into the room after he is asleep and roll him?

  • I can't even get DD to spend over a minute on her tummy for tummy time much less to sleep on it. She hates it and it worries me that we aren't building enough strength in her upeer body but I can't stand to listen to her get all upset.

  • Klink: We are in the same boat as you. The second I put DS on his belly he howls and I can't stand it! Oddly enough he will sleep on his belly, but not play.
  • I have tried to put mine on his tummy for bed for the last couple of weeks at the pedi's suggestion - he will pick up his head to turn his face away from the mattress, and supervised tummy naps have been pretty successful and made me more comfortable with the idea. ?It is much easier for him to fall asleep swaddled and on his back, but I can really tell a difference in the length and quality of sleep when he's on his tummy - he sleeps uninterrupted, sleeps longer and is in a much better mood in the mornings. ?I don't understand why he's fine with tummy sleeping for naps but will fight it tooth and nail at bedtime though!
  • our doesn't get tummy sleeping either.  he also thinks it's tummy time.  even when he is in deep sleep and rolls accidently on his tummy he wakes up trying to lift his head.

  • My DD tolerates it for short awake periods. She will sleep on her tummy for supervised naps, no prob. When she's awake, she prefers to be on her back.
