Are FSA allowable expenses set up by company or by the government? I am trying to access my company's FSA guidelines and I forgot my log in and pin and they have to mail it to me. Trying to determine if a breast pump is something that I can get reimbursed for?
Re: Any FSA gurus?
Actually I was an FSA administrator for about 2 years and I still work in HR/Benefits so I guess you could call me the guru of the 3rd tri board
Breast pumps are NOT eligible expenses unless you have a documented medical condition that requires the use of one.
The decision on what is eligible or not is not made by the employer, it is made by the IRS. Oh yeah - if anyone took childbirth classes they are eligible for FSA or deduction from your income taxes - after birth classes are NOT (ie breastfeeding, parenting, etc.).
If anyone else has questions let me know!
Good to know! It is so crappy that BP aren't covered!
I believe that if your doctor will write up a note/prescription for one your FSA will cover it. The doctor would have to say it has a medical need.

Exactly - unless you have a documented medical condition that requires the use of a breastpump for treatment (ie a blocked duct or something) it is not eligible. You must get a note from your physician stating the condition being treated, the exact item/model needed and must state that it is medically necessary.
Thanks for clarifying. I was posted when your original was posted so I didn't read it before mine went up.
