Do I need to suction his nose?

My three week old is breathing so loudly. It seems like he is congested or something. I know at this point they only breathe through their noses so it is freaking me out that it seems so stuffy like. There isn't any visible residue in his nose. Is this normal or should I be worried. I have never used the nose suction bulb. Is this a time when I should? Thanks in advance for any advice.

  • Sure go ahead and do it, there is no harm in doing it.

  • While holding him upright, spray some saline solution in his nose and then wait a few minutes so it can work and then try to suction.
  • Nose suction bulbs irritate their noses, and generally make things worse.  Agree with the PP to try saline, that clears them out!
  • my dd had this problem the other day for the first time. I put one spray up each nostril and then used the bulb thing. I did get boogers out of one side, so there must have been something up there, that I just couldnt' see. She was breathing fine afterwards, but sounded like darth vador before!
  • try running the hot shower to create some steam in the bathroom and let him breathe that for a while. The warm humidity is good for congestion.
