Heat Rash ?

What have you done to get rid of a heat rash? My baby girl who is 2 weeks has it all over her face for 4 days. I didn't realize it was a heat rash until today. I thought it was allergies and realized after having her wrapped in a Halo Sleep Sac one night and a SwaddleMe last night and both nights making it worse that it was a heat rash. I guess the fleece is too hot for her body. I didn't use a blanket or anything else but now she has a heat rash. She doesn't have a fever, I've been checking her temp under her arm 3 x a day. I don't want to give her a cool bath because I accidentally gave her a cool bath a week ago (first time mom and clueless) and she got a cold. So now that she has a heat rash I've had her in light loose clothing and have been putting cold water on a washcloth and have been patting it on her face since this morning but it hasn't got better.

Re: Heat Rash ?

  • My dd had a heat rash, and when she cooled off it went away in a couple of hours. Are you sure it's a heat rash? It could just be baby acne. My dd got that around 2 weeks.

Does baby acne get worse over time? In the past 4 days each day has been worse and now she has 2 bumps on her chest. Do they get acne on their chest? She even has red bumps on her eyelid.

  • It could be anything, a rash, acne, eczema, dry skin, etc. I'd ask your pedi for advice.

  • It's probably baby acne. It's totally normal.

There's nothing to put on it, except for a little breast milk.  That will take the redness out of it and help it clear up.

You should really avoid putting creams and lotions on their faces when they are so young.  It won't help anyway if it's baby acne because it's hormonal.

  • Our daughter has it..the doctor said it was baby acne, but does look like heat rash. She has it on her upper back, chest, head and face. He said it will get worse at 2 months and better at 3.
  • I thought ds had a heat rash but our pedi said it was cradle cap that went down to his face and chest etc.  I would check with your doc.
