Success after IF

***Tarahville***

Did you post a few weeks ago about possibly starting a home daycare and looking for ideas of why we like our daycare?

I think it was you - sorry if I've mixed you up with someone else :-)

Anyhow, if it was you, I have a few thoughts for you - I swear Miranda's (home) daycare provider is literally an angel, and I can tell you why I think so. I'm happy to post here or feel free to send me an email at pirate.elle at gmail dot com.

Re: ***Tarahville***

  • Yes! That was me. We can chat here about it if you like. I'm all up for reasons why people love their daycare,

  • We heard about our home daycare through word of mouth and really the reasons we chose her were that we have a friend with her daughter (who is 4) there too, plus when we met her, she just gave us such a warm feeling. She gave us all sorts of info on what she provided like sample meals for the week, playgroups she takes the kids to, and has a music teacher who comes in to do music lessons. She also made arrangements for me to spend a few weeks as a 'guest' at one of the playgroups, so I'd be more comfortable with her and the other kids in her daycare before I had to leave Miranda.

I was really nervous to leave Miranda, but it has really been so great. Miranda is thriving, and it's just so evident how happy she is there. Here are the things that have really impressed us lately (some of them just kindness and common sense, but it really just shows she cares).

She cooks homemade food for the kids. Granted, all her kids are older than a year (we get a year mat leave in Canada) but it's so nice to know that Miranda is getting 'real' food. It's probably cheaper to cook this way than buying processed food, and it probably feeds her family each day too - she makes things like stews, homemade soups, shepherds pie, chicken pot pie... and it always smells like home cooking in her house - I have some friends whose kids get chicken fingers, hot dogs and frozen pizza every week at least once - I'm not sure I could live with that. She'll give me the meal plan for the week too if I request it.

A lot of times when Miranda comes home, she's got little barrettes in her hair. It's such a small thing (I've seen the barrettes in a giant bag in the dollar store) but it's so nice to pick her up and have her looking cute - it shows us someone has really been looking after her.

When Miranda spills something on her clothes, we send an extra outfit, but she wets and pre-treats the stain and returns it in a plastic bag and tells us what the stain is, cause she doesn't want Miranda's clothes to be permanently stained. Again, just a small thing, but very kind, and 'above and beyond' as far as I'm concerned.

She does 'crafts' with the kids nearly every day and always sends something home. Even scribbles with paint or a crayon on copier paper - they're all on our fridge.

I posted about this the other day, but we had a beautiful surprise Christmas morning. She had made a Christmas ornament with Miranda's photo, addressed it 'to mommy and daddy from Miranda', wrapped it and left it in our mailbox for Christmas. She has her own family, but made the effort to brave the snow very early on Christmas morning to hand deliver these to her parents - it was the only gift that made me cry this year!

Anyhow, just wanted to pass along the info in case it helps you with a career change - You're a sweetheart and I'd love you to find something that gives you happiness while you continue to battle IF.

I'm hoping for all the best for you in 2009!

    take care,
    nicole

  • Wow! Just reading how awesome she is brought tears to my eyes.

She really does go above and beyond. That is truly amazing and thank you so much for sharing. :)

It sounds like Miranda has a wonderful place to go and I think that it is awesome that she cooks instead of the hotdogs and frozen pizzas. I just can't get over how awesome this lady sounds. Just from what you're telling me I would totally take my children there.

Again, thank you so much for sharing this with me. I have a little notebook that I've been writing everything down in. With all the ideas that you wonderful ladies have given me I'll be the talk of the town. Which is a good thing of course. :)
