So, here's my dilemma: exercise is awesome for me. I tend to get the winter blues and a good walk in the sun or a swim at the sunny pool at the Y does wonders. I feel better about myself and the world. My stress level goes down, it's a great thing.
Currently I have MS, the "carsick" feeling kind and am wicked fatigued and haven't had any motivation to exercise at all. On top of that, I've been doing the tinyest of pink spotting since Christmas which has the Worst-Case-Scenereo-Girl in my head rubbing her horrid little hands together in glee with dire predictions. With all this, the last think I want to do is get off the couch, this inactivity that only makes my mood and stress level worse. So, what do I do?
I'm calling the OB office tomorrow to go in for a "just check to make sure everything is OK" US and I'm sure they are going to tell me to chill the F out and that I shouldn't stop exercising. I'm currently using a guided meditation stress busting CD for naps and nighttime chill outs which helps. But, if I get the go-back-to-normal speech from the OB, should I take the plunge back into exercising?
What would you do?
Re: Stress and Exercise
I can tell you that they're probably not going to give you an u/s for that. If they gave every freaked-out pregnant woman an u/s because they were worried, it would be all they ever did.
If I were you, I'd just exercise, it will make it all better. I had early spotting and I kept exercising because my doctor said it was fine, and it was. Just listen to your body and don't overdo things, and drink plenty of water. GL!
I had pink/red spotting early on and was put on pelvic rest for 6 weeks. The 6 weeks was as a result of an ultrasound they did at the time I started spotting in order to determine the source of the spotting (which was a subchorionic bleed - extremely common). They did ultrasounds every two weeks until it was no longer evident on the ultrasound and then I was allowed to exercise again.
I ran up until I began spotting and then re-started SLOW running after the all-clear from my doctor and was able to continue with that until about 28 weeks or so - at that point I just began walking instead.
Also - I called my doctor right away and was glad I did because I am AB- and my DH is + and I needed a Rhogam shot.
Spotting in early pregnancy is very common, but never "normal," so I'd call soon. Good luck! I freaked, but things obviously were fine with me. They will be with you too.
Oh all knowing one Julia0402--I am not sure why you think the Dr. will not give her an u/s??? spotting is somewhat common but not necessarily normal so most Dr.s will want to check things out, especially if mom to be is stressing about it.
When I started spotting with my first pregnancy (just brown), my Dr. got me right in that morning. While some women that spot in the first tri are OK, some are not. I think this poster deserves the peace of mind that the u/s will give her. Just because you were a spotter and made it to 30 weeks does not mean that we all will--am I right?
I can't stand it when girls in the 2nd or 3rd tris think they know everything about pregnancy just because they have made it through. Hindsight is always 20/20.
If you are worried about exercising, then just hold off until you talk to your Dr. tomorrow. If he/she says it's okay, maybe start slow, with a 10 minute walk and then work back up to what you used to do. It might actually help your m/s.
What stress busting CD do you have? I'm looking for a good one.
