Exercise Savvy ladies...

What are some good exercises to get rid of the flabby belly from baby?  I've heard crunches don't really work unless you do them correctly but I was thinking of getting a pilates video that was specifically for abs.  Any ideas?

ps..I usually walk to lose weight but the cold/babies/cold induced asthma keeps me indoors in the winter and usually I don't anything during the winter except my stair climber (and I've been bad about that this winter) but my belly is so bad.  TIA

  • I don't have any specific ideas besides yoga or pilates to strengthen your core muscles becaue my problem areas are my thighs/butt but is mall walking an option? We also just got a wii fit. It has some great exercises that don't take too much time.

  • Pilates is really good for your abs full stop, as all the movement should come from those muscles. The Giam/Living Arts DVD (I think it's called beginner mat workout) with Ana Cabon is a great starter one-- very similar to the pilates classes I've done and once you get the general hang of it, they do the whole series with bands, balls, rings, etc, but that one doesn't require anything to do and is only about 30 minutes.

  • You can do crunches til the cows come home, but it wont give you a 6 pack. You have to pair it with heavy cardio, as we all know you cannot spot train.

So I do 30 minutes of hard cardio, 30 minutes of weights or abs mixed with crunches. It wont get rid of the skin, but I need my muscles back :(

  • My SIL has 3 ?little girls and swears by pilates. She had c-sections with each one, the last being 18 months ago. She started pilates about 6 months after her last daughter was born, and now her stomach looks even better than before having her first.?

In addition to the pilates for toning, you should do some cardio as well. It will help you lose overall "fluff" and make a big difference in your stomach. Do you have access to an elliptical or treadmill you you can stay inside for the winter?

Sigh, I love my big baby bump now, but I'm dreading to see what my stomach is going to look like in a few weeks......?

  • Pilates/Yoga will strengthen your core, but cardio is really the only thing that will help get rid of excess flab. Maybe a cardio/aerobics DVD? I always like Denise Austin. She can get annoying, but her workouts are short (30 minutes on average), so if you do them daily, you should see a difference.
