I took everything apart and washed all the bottles and parts.
How do you store them? Do you assemble the bottle with straw, vent, collar and nipple and store in the cupboard? or do you keep them separate and assemble as you use them?
When filling with formula do you fill first then insert straw and then rest of bottle parts?
What do you do with that little disc thing? It seems kinda useless as the reviews say that if you are going to travel use the special made for traveling caps. Also the nipple covers? do you use those on a regular basis at home? I can see using them if you go out.
Re: What order to fill/assemble Dr Brown bottles?
I store my bottles on a drying rack on the countertop. In the morning i fill 4-5 bottles with measured water and gas drops and assemble them so I just have to add formula when DS is hungry. I add formula and mix with a formula mixer, then put the rest of the bottle together.
The disk is great if the bottle wont be upright. So I dont use them in my diaper bag because i have upright bottle pockets but I do use them if I throw a bottle in my stroller, a carry on bag on a plane, etc.
We also just leave them on a bottle drying rack until ready to use. We are using breast milk now so I just pore some in and assemble 3 or 4 at once so they are ready to go. Will probably so the same when using formula (mix it first then keep in storage container and fill bottle when ready).
We only use the travel disk when the bottles may not be upright but be sure you remember they are on there. Made for a VERY unhappy baby the times we forgot. LOL.
We leave them on the bottle drying rack until we're ready to use them and/or they are dry. ?If they are dry and we don't need them I assemble them and put them in a cabinet until we need them.
When I use them, I fill them with BM and then assemble all of the parts so that they are ready to go. ?I put the white cap (travel cap) on them while they're in the fridge or when we're out and about to a) keep the milk from spilling and b) keep any of the other smells from the fridge from getting into the milk.
I only have 5 bottles at home so I dont need to store in the cabinet. I keep 3-4 clean bottles filled w/6 or 8oz of water and the storage caps on, ready to make formula with. I put the vents in the straws and keep them in a cup on the counter. I put the nipples in the rings and put a cap on top to keep dirt off.
When i'm ready to make a bottle, I shake the formula up w/the cap on, take the cap off, put a vent/straw in, and screw the nipple/ring on top.
I only use those little disk things when we travel. I prefill the bottles w/water, put the vent/straw thing in, put the disk thing in the nipple/ring, and put the cap on top. When I shake the formula I just take the disk out and put everything back on including the cap, before I shake. (that way, if a little milk comes out, it doesn't spray all over the place.) I found that's the easiest way to travel w/them, so all of the parts aren't just floating around in the diaper bag and they stay clean.
I air dry my parts on a towel and then assemble them. However, I do put the nipple in the top before it's completely dry because it creates more suction and further prevents leakage.
The discs I store in my cabinet until I need them. I also store the caps there, and we keep one cap up in DS's room for feedings just in case he doesn't finish it.
The little brush I use to clean my connectors in my PISA. It fits just perfectly into those tiny holes.
