Playing/Interacting with 4 week old

DS is just over 4 weeks old and totally starting to have awake time during the day. ?Yesterday morning DH and I gave him tummy tiime on his play mat thing and then started to introduce some of his new toys that he got for Christmas. ?I think we overstimulated him - we played for about 20 minutes and he was super fussy for the rest of the afternoon. ?This morning DS was awake after his feeding so I put him in the swing for a few minutes so I could brush my teeth, etc. ?After I took him out and tried to play with him with a toy and he got all fussy - so I put him in the swing and he calmed right down.

Is anyone else's DC like this? ?Do you think he's getting overstimulated? ?Or sometimes is just a few minutes with a toy/tummy time, etc sufficient? ?I want to interact with him, but obviously don't want to over do it...?

Re: Playing/Interacting with 4 week old

  • My DD really wasn't interested in playing or toys or anything until about 2 months - he may be overstimulated.  Now at 10 weeks, she enjoys interaction and loves her rattles and especially the mirror on her playmat.

  • Just follow his lead. As soon as he looks away then stop play time. At four weeks we would show him a rattle and move it side to side and up and down to work on visual tracking. Also when DS was 4 weeks he would only do about 10-15 mins of one activity ie swing for 15, bouncy for 15 play for 15.
